There was a falling-out about the Disclaimer and property rights to the maps and mods here...so they are staying at their own site...but they said they will post here when the maps are available for download.

Fred, here you must be talking about Clockwatcher, although I'm not sure it's the case: although he started the BoB map thread he very soon disappeared from the landscape, long before the disclaimer issue came. I don't care about detais, just miss this M8 which have contributed with ideas to map development.
Currently the forum is pretty dead with regards to new ideas. It's more like a question->answer forum. And I feel that new ideas ideas are needed to push the map development even further.

I think that Clockwatcher is active soldier and that he is deployed somewhere.
Niel is around, I saw his name on the list of people browsing forum.
Spud is too busy in RL at least that's what I heard.

You are right that there are no new ideas but that's normal. Those exciting days when we were discovering new things every day are gone. Map makers now have all of the necessary tools, map
making techniques are developed and refined and now it's time for workers not the pioneers.

As you was one of the guys who laid the foundation for map making you should enjoy the fact that this section has become best example of what modders can do to improve this game.

FC, I'm surely not expecting new map concepts every day, as you said those nice times are gone. But still I feel there's place for new ideas. Let's say: the benchmarck to be the Slovakia map. Can anyone beat it or at least equal it? And how?
Some questions I find to be a challenge:
1.how to populate towns such that they look alive but without using a million objects?
2.what to do about river shores and river springs?
3. the issue of VERY limited number of textures available on a map (one idea by Clockwatcher and one by you)
4. the poor display of mountain peaks (this might be unsolvable) because of poor space resolution.
Hm, random alchotalking, sorry...

Don't know but I hear tell that a six pack & pizza have solved many problems. There's a lot of smart fellows out there.

I'm still around lowfighter Wink

Still plugging away on Darwin, when time permits. Though the things that I'd like to add (that i feel need to be added) aren't able to be at the moment, but i'm looking forward to being able to in future.
