Fly-zo,
I've read & reread yout instructions & tried several times to install maps & each time I've disabled game ( now I'm backed up so no roblems there...
First I have no maps folder ( or all.ini for that matter ) in my files folder...if I do a search maps shows up on my dvd...so moving it is impossible. Do I instead write this into my Mods folder? If I extract the default maps and new maps to Mods folder without something else I stop the game immediately.
Second where the heck is the installer? Are we talking about the installer somewhere else or is ther a map installer I just haven't found yet?
I kow we will be getting new missions that will be dependent on these new maps & I want to have them,but no luck in the install. :oops:

map mods structure :

gameroot\MODS\MAPMODS\maps\( map mods folders ...all.ini...)

every "official" AAA map mod ( from maps download section ) comes with installer .... it's really just winrar self install application with routine for updating all.ini ( or adding )

Here's the sticking pointI have no Maps folder in original 1946 files folder...so I can't move it to Mods.If I download Mod Maps directly into Mods folder,the sim will not operate.As you can imagine I don't want to do this again.I have hadtrouble finding the installer that will simply install everthing in the right place for it to work properly.What I have currently ready to extrct into the simare these two things:
1) all_ini_static.ini & 2) vp_default_map_modsv1-7

Do I simply extract these into Mods folder & then I can place all other maps in the new Mapmod folder?? The I can easily put new maps in the same place. 8)

.... just install one of other map mods ( not vpmedia's default maps ....) ... watch for game version

instruct installer to game root folder ( by default: C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946\) ... if you have game installed on some other location then instruct installer accordingly ...


It will create new folders and it will place all.ini ( 4.09 version) file to proper location :


IL-2 Sturmovik 1946\MODS\MAPMODS\maps\ all.ini

if you have all.ini present in Files folder just make those folders manually and move your all.ini as explained above BEFORE RUNNING INSTALLER !

That was just the tip Ineeded ...I think...I've downloaded all the maps & the sim still appears to work fine...I guess I've been trying to insert the default maps & everytime doing it without the path in place.So one last questionhould I now put the Default maps in or is it unnnecessary?

glad it did the trick

as for default maps goes, you can install it ( it does improve game IMHO) .... please read carefully vpmedias d/l thread to get it right
