[MOD] Weapon Hit Effects V1.2 (mg effects)
#1

~S~

This is my first mod. It attempts to replicate the sparks/flashes that result from 50 cal mg fire as I have seen in real gun camera footage. It's really cool to actually see when your 50's are hitting home. I'm flying the allied birds a lot right now Smile

Rev1.2
1) Updated smoke texture.
2) Reduced amount of smoke particles from gun hits.
3) Lighted color of smoke boiling effect.

Rev1.1
1) I forgot to resize one of the textures, resized to 128x128 to save memory
2) Ricochet graphic wasn't working, restored stock for now.
3) Reduced size of flashes slightly

Rev1.0
Some of the things I did were:
1) Created some new textures for the hit flashes that change per hit to simulate flashes.
2) Converted the stock fire bursts into smoke particles to simulate fine debris coming off after a hit.
3) Changed the ricochet graphic.
4) Edited the air-burst explosion graphic (inserted real flames from a picture)
5) Added a little more debris

Note this mod does not change any of the stock cannon effects, just the mg's (12mm effects). I may experiment with these at a later time.

I have added some screenshots:

Just checked this out Maven. Pretty good. You are on to something which i just discovered the other day but didn't implement into a mod yet. Although its a great idea, i am still going to be sticking with the default sprites. The perspective of the default sprites is correct now, the further away the bigger the spark seems. Only downside to your mod is when your close, under 400 meters where most of my dogfights occur, the sparks from the .50s are really huge.

Great job on the textures for the sprites though. They look really good. Smile

S!

Thanks for the positive feedback guys. The size of the sparks can be toned down to suite your preference:

In the \3do\Effects\Fireworks folder open the file 12mmPluff.eff and lower the following setting to reduce the size of the flash:

Radius0 2.7

A setting of 1.5 to 2.0 may give you the effect you're looking for. Radius1 determines the final (smallest) size of the flash.

Hope this Helps,
Maven

Ok it's compatible??

So...whos 12mmPluff.eff is used? It seems that Your Mod and Th!rdeye's Mod both use it.

Sorry if I missed something.

My mod focuses on the cannon hits, I also tweaked the MG hits in mine to suite my idea of realism. If you want Mavens hits, rename his folder so its ahead of mine. I.e "1Mavens Hit Effects" It will load before mine and overwrite my mg hits but keep my cannon hits.

really good job maven and very thx for your mod.

there is a way to reduce the smoke from hits, actually can't difference between cannon and mg's hits so reducing the smoke from mg's hits will be better.

Potenz,

I reduced the amount of smoke in the latest version (v1.2), however this may still be too much for you. I have not spent much time on the cannon effects as Thirdeye already has something for this. I may tweak my mod for this as well at some point. If you would like to lower the smoke more, open up the 3do\Effects\Fireworks\12_Burn.eff file and lower the particle count parameter nParticles from 16 to maybe 8. You can also make the smoke more transparent by lower the last number in the following line: Color0 0.46 0.41 0.35 0.35; change the last 0.35 to 0.20 to get more transparent textures.

Hope this Helps,
Maven
