Advice on video card upgrade
#1

I'm still using an old Radeon 9800pro,and I want to get better performance for about a year and a half until I get my next rig.All these mods are making me want to run better graphics (perfect mode hopefully) with more planes in the air.I've been checking out the HD 2600XT,HD 3650 and GeForce 7300GT,but wonder if I can get by cheaper with something else. Are these cards overkill for my old system?
I'm running:
AMD Athlon 64 3000+
1 gig DDR 400
AGP 8X 9800pro
and a 430 watt Antec power supply
Any suggestions welcome.

Unfortunately, the AGP slot is pretty much dead, although it was rumored that ATI would make new cards for AGP. I have no experience with ATI, but I can tell you that you will likely be disappointed with the Nvidia 7300GT as it is a budget card and little else. The best Nvidia card for the AGP slot is the 7950GS (good luck finding one) or the 7800GS. The 6800GS would be a good third choice, but it is not likely to provide really playable frame rates with anything more than water=2.

Thanks for the reply.
After a new 19" LCD widescreen and Omega drivers,I'm getting better performance. Not sure why,but now I can even run in perfect settings with 4x AF filtering.Even over large cities it's not too bad. With every mission I've flown so far...
Works for me!
I'll just save the VC money towards my next build.

That is a wise move.
