I originally started this thread with a different title, and intent. Since then I have refined my idea, and edited my first post and gave the thread a bump after realizing this could indeed be very cool for people wanting more control of a 4 engine bomber.
I am going to try making this mod myself then. I D/L'd some of the tools for a start, and have the Java development kit going. I can code html fine-- but writing Java will be totally new. Any advice any of you may have would be most welcome and appreciated.
Here is my Use Case. I have this as my design document until I come up with more:
User shall have ability to control up to four engine throttles and four prop pitches in IL-2/1946. This ability will be accomplished by using a modification file set that will reside in Program_root/MODS.
Functionality will be as follows: User starts IL-2, navigates to Hardware Setup/Input/HOTAS Control. There user will have ability to set up to four USB controllers with axis to each of the Power and Prop Pitch positions.
Compatible USB controllers with axis may be considered mouse wheels, throttle control on up to four different USB joysticks, USB throttle quadrants of any manufacture.
Illustration of mock-up below:
Now how many of you might be interested in something like this? I have no idea of how long it will take me, or even if I can do it- all I know is I can't wait for someone else to do it.
=============================================Original first post
Hi there- I know in stock IL-2 if you have a throttle quadrant, currently it is not possible to control 2 or 4 engine planes on separate axis. There's a gent over at the Ubi boards who came up with some software to do such a thing, but you cannot use it online.
I was wondering if anyone had taken a stab at such a mod here? I did a search and found nothing, so maybe I am the first to post the idea here- I don't know.
What I have always thought would be pretty cool to control 2 engines independently, and take full advantage of the P-38's twin engine design making it into a much more effective turner. If someone were able to do this, I'd go out and get a second throttle quadrant for bomber flying
Any thoughts or feedback on this idea?
Thanks guys- I've been loving your work 8) It may require more tinkering than your regular sim, but for me anyway it's well worth it!
Cheers
