[MOD] Gunsmoke Effect (Links Updated 08/10/08)
#31

Quote:hi Maven, thanks for replying. No , not at all! I think the smoke is way more realistic than than muzzleflash in smaller calibre weapons. From most war eara footage I remember smoke from puffs from the muzzles, and flash from cannons.

I have seen some clips from P-51's that seen to show some flash from the fifties, but it seems to be more transparent and extends farther away from the wing than what's in the sim. I was thinking about re-making some new muzzle flash graphics, but I might work on the smoke instead. I see what you are saying about the cannons.

Mr-Fox,

You would like the smoke to more transparent or less of it?

I have no reservations with the way the smoke looks now. I like it. only thing I'm asking, is can we add some of this smoke, to trail behind the tracer rounds in a 50cal mg. THAT would make me the happiest camper!

Oh, I see what you saying... kinda like cannon smoke but using smoke particles? I don't have an answer at the moment, I'll do check into that...

I did some testing the other night with replacing the animated gunfire with smoke particles. It may not be possible (or very difficult) because they belong to different object classes. I also tried substituting some other textures for the gunfire sprites with no success. Sad

yea, it would just be amazing to see particle smoke from a 50cal tracer round. that would just about complete the game for me!! what ever you can do, well appreciated!

You cannot make tracer smoke without breaking AAA rules. You have to edit a certain file that is not allowed to be edited unless your making a new slot.

Oh well, appreciate you trying! No biggie, you mod is great as is!
What is the issue with .50 smoke/tracers? Does it somehow change the damage value? I keep seeing this, what did I miss?

It doesn't change the damage value, it merely is done from within a forbidden file; one which, unless its for new slot aircraft, is against AAA policy to even TOUCH.

So, in order to maintain AAA's integrity. Its frustrating, I know - but its just how it is.

Last night I installed this mod and I must say one thing.... YES!!!!!

Great mod and looks far better than a trail of empty brass falling from the airframe. Making the muzzle flashes more transparent would be great, if possible.

Ahh, I see. I can understand that, thanks for the explanation.

I tried something very simple and unfortunately didn't work at all.
I photoshopped in 2 pieces of 50 cal brass and 2 links into the smoke puff thinking it would be somewhat visible. The smoke was still there but I could not see a trace of the brass or links. Maybe I need to become more familiar with TGA files to get them to become more visible. I thought I made them dark enough to be seen in game. I can try it a few more times before I run out of ideas.
