Technische Daten MiG-9FR :
MiG-9M was manufactured in June 1947 and test pilot I.T. Ivashchenko performed the first flight on it in July of the same year. Two RD-21 were installed on the aircraft which represented itself the same RD-20 engines but reheated up to thrust of 1,000 kg. This provided to slightly increase flight characteristics. Speed increment was 55 km/h in comparison with MiG-9 production aircraft, time-to-climb of altitude of 5 km reduced by 1 minute and 36 seconds.
Armament location was changed to prevent effect of firing on engine operation. N-37 cannon located on the right side of fuselage and NS-23 cannons located on the left side of fuselage. All armament was shifted back, as cannon barrels did not project behind air intake's cut. In its turn it allowed to move slightly pilot cabin forward and to improve view. In addition the cabin was pressurised. Speed-brake flaps were also installed on the aircraft and configuration of fuel system was changed by means of reducing the number of tanks but keeping their total capacity. Factory tests were carried out on 26 April 1948 after that the aircraft was handed over for state tests which it did not pass. Besides, by that time FR became obsolete as tests of MiG-15 fighter prototypes were carried out in full swing.
