I think the catalyst drivers were the issue. I had made some changes within the settings that I thought would help the situation, but evidently they hindered the situation. I'll have to go back through the settings and mess with them to try to isolate the problem/s.

I tweaked around with the Bios, but when I set the ATI control to default ignoring all settings it made the difference immediately.

Thanks for your help.

Just a suggestion here and there made the difference.

Well done! I appreciate your help and concern.

A second thought... I constantly have issues with my eyes, small constant headache like I used to get when I ran Analog monitor at 60 hz. I wonder if pushing up this monitor to 75 will help with that? I cannot get it to resolve at 1920x1200 75hz, but it will resolve at 1440x900 at 75.

I'm at 1440x900 now, but I think it's a little late today to determine if it helps. I've been on the computer the greater part of the day at 60 hz.

Any more problems let me know. I used to play IL2 on basically the same rig as you've got, and I well remember the frustrating days before I figured all this stuff out. It took me 3 solid weeks of daily testing and retesting before I got it all hashed out, and I decided that so much work should not go to waste since there seemed to be little information about il2 tweaking on the internet.

You've been alot of help. You know often help comes in many ways. I probably would have thrown my hands up in disgust after the first day, but you plugged along with me and voila.

I don't know why this improves framerate about 5 percent over 1 but it does. (and I think it is a bitmask, meaning 0, 2, 4, etc is the same, and 1, 3, 5, etc is the same as well)

.

I have a core2duo E6700 processor and I have the winxplauncher program loaded and have core 2 set to run IL-2, in the conf.ini I'm a bit confused about the affinity setting, is 0 for both cores, 1 for core 0 and 2 for core 1?. because I'm not sure I have it set up right. And the other thing I noticed is when I had just 4.08 loaded I maxed out almost continiously at 60fps with vsync on because of TIR 4. Once I put 4.09 on my frames drop to 45fps and lower depending on map densities, no matter which core.dll's I use. Here are my conf.ini settings

I notice my video setup is 17, I set it to nvidia on the setup screen and it seems to revert back to 17 each time. I also turn off use dither, it cause jaggies out the ying yang, if I turn it off I get no jaggies at all.

I also use nhancer since it's inception. my verion 2.4.1 does not show AFR3, is it the AFR/SFR option?. Most of the time I use SFR, it seems to run better. I also have 2 x nvidia 8800GTS in SLI configuration. with nvidia driver 174.74 installed.

nhancer settings are:

AA = SLI @ 8X
Gamma + On
Multisampling transparancy = On

AF = 8x
Vsync = On
Triple buff _ On

Texture Filter _High Quality
Trilinear Opt _ Off
Aniso Filter Opt. = Off
Aniso Samp Opt. = Off
Neg LOD bias = Clamp
LOD bias 0.00
Force DXT3 + Off
Prerencer limit = 3

AA Compat. = gerneral
OpenGl compt. = general
Force Mip maps. = Trilinear
HDR = disabled
Conformant Text Clamp = On
Driver Ext. = 0
Reported OGL version = 2.0
OGL Control
Multithread. = Off
Error Rpt. = off
OGL Multi display = single
Dynamic tiling = 1
CPU support = Multi core

SLI Mode = AFR-SFR (AFR3 not avail)
Comp flags = 22 set????? not sure how that got there
OGL flags - 02, 03 and 16-31 off rest are set

The game plays very well, but it should be running alot better. My Compter is as follows

EVGA 122-CK-NF68-AR LGA 775 680i Mobo P-26 bios
INTEL Core 2 Duo E6700 @ 2.66GHz
ZALMAN CNPS 9700 LED cooler
2 x EVGA 768-P2-N835-AR 8800GTX 768MB SuperClocked in SLI
CORSAIR Dominator 2GB kit DDR2 @1066Mhz (PC8500C5D)
2 x WESTERN DIGITAL 72GB 10krpm RAPTORS in Raid 0
SEAGATE Barracuda 250GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s (Dump Truck)
SB Audigy 2ZS
SONY 16X DVD+-R DVD DRU120C | SONY 1.44MB 3.5" Floppy Drive
PC Power & Cooling Silencer 750w Quad
ANTEC 900 Case.
GATEWAY FPD2485W 24 TFT LCD Monitor 1920x1200

I should still be getting 60fps in this game, but I'm not.

I get better frame rates in Lock On for Pete's sake with very high settings. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

Thanks for posting this.
I'm one of those long-time ATI owners you mentioned, and yes I hate "ATI stutter" as you call it. By the way, that's a strange name for it, given that nVidia cards will happily produce the same motion artifacts if VSync is enabled and triple buffering is not. But I digress. I wanted to point out that there's a fix. I'd be surprised if you didn't know about Triple Buffering? On my machine, I can only get Triple Buffering working in IL2 by using low resolutions and/or lower levels of anti-aliasing (e.g. 1152x864, 2xAA) but it does work. Bye-bye "ATI" stutter (although other kinds of stutter may still occur). I wondered if there was any reason you left out this tip? Cos if you know something I don't about "ATI stutter" I'd very much like to learn it! (tearing and motion artifacts are pet hates of mine)

Ok guys this really helped smooth out IL2 on my new laptop. Now it runs very smooth, but with one problem: when I'm flying a mission my myself the sound is fine, but when I'm flying with other aircraft around me the sound starts to stutter. If I hit escape and am at the options menu, the sound is fine. When I return to game it starts stuttering again. The game itself still runs smooth. Only started happening after I made the changes to the conf.ini and installed and used nHancer and WinLauncherXP. Any ideas? :?

Edit: Nevermind I figured it out! :oops: Launching IL-2 from WinLauncherXP made the sound stutter. Lauching the game normally it runs just as fast without it and the sound is fine. Thanks again for these tips! 8)

I just got perfect mode working with no apparent stutter/micro-pause. I was frustrated over stutters in perfect mode, so decided to update drivers from 169.21 to 175.19, and nHancer to 2.42. After testing and getting worse results, today I went back to 169.21 and got rid of nHancer.

First, I checked fs9 and AA worked Tongue I was under the impression I had to have nHancer to get AA.
Then Il-2, I was amazed to discover micro-pause/stutter was gone 8) I am using 13/03/08 dll. files.
I've only done a quick test and I will mess with different settings to fine tune, but it's looking like I have it whipped.

What the hell was I using nHancer for :?

Windows XP SP2 / Zone Alarm
E8400/680I SLI/ 2GB DDR2
Seagate 250GB 16MB x2 Raid 0
8800GT 512 SLI / 169.21
Sound Blaster X-FI
Samsung 245BW @ 1920 x 1200

I made the mistake of messing with my settings as per this thread and got myself into trouble, I can't get perfect mode back. I dunno what I did but whenever I set HardwareShaders=1 which has to be set to achieve Perfect setting, when I go in game no perfect and in the config HS=0 again, I've been at this for hours and never had a problem till now, while some of what was posted here was useful and I was benchmarking the results I wanted to go back to perfect to see just how much of a difference there was but I can't get it to come back on and I do know what I'm doing, but I don't know what is keeping HardwareShaders at 0..?
