Philippines v2.0 texts.txt UPDATE 11.2008

Bee Wrote:Looking at some of the textures, I reckon you could do a lot worse than to borrow some of Handy's incredible Crimea ones. Particularly those for the town areas (compatable with default building layouts too). They have a scrubby sort of feel that is ideal on pacific maps. Definitely worth a look.

I have downloaded the map, put my settings to PERFECT and it loaded beautifully, without a hitch!!!! Made a trial mission, and saved it - no problems!

EXCELLENT, REALLY EXCELLENT!!!! Thank you very, very, VERY much. You are The Man! Big Grin

(Regarding what Avatar said: I actually don't agree. I think it's VERY GOOD that you used no modded objects or tweaked textures, but only generic textures. Maps like the Thailand map or CanonUK's eagerly awaited 1940 map require extensive tweaking because of this. Just have a look at the discussion over these maps, with people having enormous problems getting them up and running.

I rather take a stable map, that works without any problems, without the eye-candy, than a visually dazzling map that is unstable or tricky to get running. I say this as an avid campaign builder.

This is not to knock the Thailand map or the 1940 map: they will be WONDERFUL when they come, and I understand those that want to prioritize the visual side. This is a complex issue, but if I had to choose, I'd go for the stable map.

So Delvpier, I vote to keep the present, unmodded textures state.)

Anyway: I will start working on a Philippines 1941 campaign RIGHT NOW!!!!

Frequent_Flyer Wrote:Fly-zo, thanks for the repy. This is the only line i see in the all.ini.file relating to the map "Philippines dlv_Philippines/load.ini" I have the sound mod, and patched to 4.9b1m. I had no such problem with the Slot nor Darwin maps. I installed the AAA " offical"version

Well, it all looks like it should be .... strange

I must admit that i never had CTD caused by loading any map ( even unfinished ones) in FMB . Please does CTD happens immediately upon trying or do you getting load error message first (status bar)?
If so , please look in console for error reports ( shift+tab) .... should be at the bottom .

To me this map looks like normandy with philipino names and topography (textures), but thanks for all the hard work yet, hopefully someone who knows how will give a few sand beaches and palm trees to the islands in the future ?

I do NOT find That to be Constructive Criticism. More like Whining.

Edit: Poltava let me know what kind of early Philippines campaign you plan to work on.

I've already started a Alternate History campaign of such, but some of my missions are historical so your more than welcome to use them and heavily Alter them to fit your campaign.

1. Rollnlopp: I think this a SUPERB piece of work.

2. Dixiecapt: I have started work on a Japanese Army Airforce campaign, where you fly the Ki-27 for Sentai 24 - there are some lovely skins around portraying aircraft of this unit - based on Aparri, the airstrip on the northern tip of Luzon. Will this collide with your work? There is no need for that, as there is plenty of scope for other campaigns!

Not At All!

Mine is an USAAF FEAF Alternate History Campaign

You will be a B-17 Pilot, that will get to Fly both P-40s and P-26s after the invasion.

Gents, please do start threads for campaigns/missions on this excellent map in appropriate forum sections so they can get discussed there ....

Once you have d/l link (AAA) for your finished work you can post info in here.

In the meantime please only install issues , map commenting ( to an degree) and "thank you" notes should be posted here .

thank you

1. Sorry.

2. Delvpier! I think I have spotted a small problem! The northernmost airstrip on Luzon (and on the map) - I guess it is Aparri - lies in a small valley, and although I can land there, the AI can't, not without juuust hitting the small hillock at the start of the runway, and invariably knocking off the left landing-gear, resulting in a pile-up: my entire flight of Ki-27's crashed!

So the planned attack on Clark Field is aborted for now! Cry And my Japanese AI pilots are SO very eager to go...

Do you think you can flatten that hillock? You can see it here in the background:

1/ about Landscape details = Excellent... I worked on that bloody map_F all day... it gives a much better view of far landscape but there is still a problem with coast and rivers... unfortunately, before release, I deleted basic files including some layers that would help now... am I stupid !?

so this problem is half solved but I need to go further... in case of unsucces, I would have to restart from the beginning... just for those who play with Excellent settings (... it's so better in Perfect)
Maybe it's time to think about a new graphic card

2/ I agree with you Lowfighter, towns are probably too simple... I must admit that placing objects (even with autopop) is a little boring for me... what I like in map making is most of all creating a new terrain model, loadable in game and texturing landscape... other aspects, I make it because it is needed... I will think about it

3/ I used only textures from rom and sk... I didn't know they were in Normandy
No seriously, it's impossible to make choices for textures that everybody find ok... There will be allways some guys to say "I would have done different or better"... we don't know, we never see their map !... My first idea was to use the set of textures released with Beta and changing colors with more red, but I was not really satisfied (too many repetitions of textures on large area) and one day I found a way to use generic textures by playing with -2, -1, 1, 2 indices. I think it's better.

4/ all observations will be taken in account and treated (bugs, heights...) for future... but now I'm really tired

You can take a rest - that's for sure! I LOVE this map, and will for now use other parts of the build another campaign, so there is no stress regarding that nasty little hillock at Aparri!

Regarding the building of cities, etc. I have no experience what so ever in map construction, but I know my standard FMB very well, and I understand that the task of populating the map can be farmed out to lesser mortals. I readily volunteer to help you out: placing huts and houses, etc. If at all possible, and if I can figure out how to do it, technically. (I'm not a tecchie...)

You should stick to the important bits, and leave some of the simple and monotonous detail work to others - if at all possible.

But now: you have done an excellent job, and deserve a break!

I loaded the map yesterday (approved AAA map) and lost all of my 4.09 maps, could not get them back period. I had to reinstall the mods to get it working right. I had no multiple entries in the all.ini either. Don't think I will try to install this one anytime soon, I did have your beta map, with manual install, it worked fine. Did not look anything like the Phillipines, but was nice none the less.
