U-Boat Pens

Just thinking, do these exist, in IL-2 I was thinking like St Nazaire or Lorient.

If they haven't been made it could be interesting given the Lancaster is being worked on. Grand Slam and Tallboy targets....

I have some troubles to imagine a map of the Atlantic cost without such buildings. So you do not be worry, we will work on it.

I've some files from an old game:B17 the mighty eighth....
They're TGA files, and u need an OMF mod to open them.
Not sure if this helps....But I hear the walls of said sub-pens were 15ft thick? :o

Well I said I was looking at the Graf Zeppelin carrier but that is way to complex for me at the moment.

SubPens I could handle no worries. I have been a member at subsim.com for a long time and there are loads of WWII Silent Hunter jocks there who could help me out.

So how do I go about getting involved in this? I'd love to contribute something since I think the AAA unified installer has added a whole new dimension to the game.

Well, acquire or create a 3D model of the pens (unless there's something in-game you can use) make sure the model uses correct mapping technique, and corresponds to the games object limits (usually around 4000 poly's PER MESH (aye, this is large, but from experiences, this seems to be the individual .msh poly limit for the engine...), but for ground objects its wise to use substantially less

As suggested earlier, catch up with the likes of Fisneaky, Magot, Cannon, I/JG54_Gringo, Zorin, MrJolly - those guys there will be your best bet for some more indepth help on the matter of buildings/objects.

Don't be afraid of approaching anyone on the official mod teams for assistance, we are bloody busy, but someone may have the time (and ability) to assist you further

As Taurus already pointed out, these kind of buildings will come together with the Bay of Biscay map.

Thanks for the replies. The 4000 poly limit isn't a problem. When I was making models for Sub Command that was the same limit and I had to work within that.

I will say that when it comes to mapping in MAX I cheated and used a 3rd party program to unwrap the model and used a very simple way of applying the map. So I will be asking for help with that.

I do some stuff and let you see what I can do.

What was that program?

Ah wicked cool Smile

Cheers for that, should help alleviate a lot of those annoying mapping headaches Smile

It can do funny things though.

I always found that after I had mapped a model, saved the map and then opened it up in max I had to reweld almost every vert as they mysteriously duplicated themselves.

Anyway I have some people hunting down plans.
