Concept: are interlocking maps possible?
#1

Just an idea- have no idea what's possible, but here goes:
- if you have two maps, using the same scale (be it 1:1, 1:2, etc.) would it possible to have a MOD where a flight can go from one map to another? It sounds sort of crazy to me, but I don't know code for anything.

Anyone know if this is possible? In this manner, the entire world could be modelled in manageable chunks.

Thanks for any thoughts

I think that this would be a MAJOR overhaul in the game.

yup, that would be dream come true .... for me anyway

... so mission file should have all maps specified and preloaded or you'll have loading pause when end of map gets reached ? ( either way would be acceptable to me , though )

cheers

Yeah Fly_Zo- something like that. Or some overlap like there's the Gentleman doing Italy/Corsica. I noticed that the northern part of that map could overlap Zip Zapp's. So if the construction were standardized, a series of maps would have an overlap area of- 10 miles as an arbitrary figure- so going from one map to another would actually be like going through 3: the original, the overlapping area, and the next map.

And I haven't even been smoking anything when I thought of this.

Anyone familiar enough with the code to say definite yes or not possible I wonder?

That would be really cool to size down the world into one map. I think it would be a real hit! I would fly to Florida with my B-17 to go surfing!

apart from memory issue, because each map have actors.static file (define object placements) and there are coordinates for each object i see no way to have two map loaded at the same time (objects overlapping) .... only loading new data at the end of map option has real potential IMHO

Hmm... I see your point. The Static.ini's would have to end at some point and start at another, which would be an immersion killer as you'd hang until the next loaded. I can understand that a unified Static file would likely get too large to be practical very easily.

Oh well. I'm still very please with the larger maps here though.

Thanks for your input 8)

Yup, i love them too .... still hoping someone will make scaled "World map" so i can fly "around" the world in three or four hours ( it would be nice to have different weather option for certain part of map though )

Yes- Fluffy's cloud mod goes a long way towards simulating weather fronts, but it'd be nice to have rain or snow one place and clear weather another. One advantage we'll likely have in BoB:SoW 8)

Really hope Oleg is liberal on the mod side there re: maps. I can imagine lots of stuff that would be possible with a more up to date engine.

Cheers

You gotta love this... so far I have seen literally dozens of things I have either seen asked or asked for myself in ORR over the years, and this was one.

I suggested back then that perhaps if you could have transition maps ... one all water, one all desert, one all svannah..... and those maps would all load when the mission loaded and everyone would have to have all the maps like now, which would increase mission load times substantially but I am sure that would be acceptable. If a way could also e figured out how to allow respawning in coops you could actually simulate landing and refueling and taking off again... or some all day missions.

yeah, just like the ole cfs2 days, taxi to the parking area and 2 mins later starting back up with full payload....... i asked for this a while back BC with only negative responses from non modders lol

I've been hoping for this for years. There was a thread I started a while back about it. Also had a long winded version at Ubi's ORR, but that is long gone now.

viewtopic.php?t=6095&highlight=recon

The Recon-point markers are primitive spawn objects that might be cloned and programmed for a variety of purposes. Warping to next map/mission might be one of them...

Paul Lowengrins DCG is doing (and has been doing) all along? I mean the grandcampaign that takes you from one front to the next in a succession thruoghout the war, at least on the east front. At his forum http://forums.jg1.org/index.php?c=4 there are descriptions on how to take campaigns from one map to another making a whole carriere.
You need to create an account to post but it

Yeah but I think the poster was talking about multiple maps seamlessly... Not having to restart a campaign for each map.
