this is a problem with nvidia drivers, no matter how big is your card on weter 3 or 4 you will get stutters i been reading a lot in diferents forums and after a certain driver version this problem came up and never could be solved again.

yes water 2, my card can easy handle water 3 or 4 at 60 fps and is a 7600 gt fatality, but i get stutters. It was weird, cause before start to research about it i couldn't understand what was the problem, i have the stutter but no fps drop, so i start looking for a fix and i got that information about the drivers it appears when drivers after 70.XX came up and nvidia never could fix it as this game is not a blockbuster game, nvidia don't take much attention on this problem it's a shame cause ati cards don't run water 3 or 4 and nvidia cards can't do it now with out the stutters.

thanks potenz i noticed the same thing, that the frame rate remained high but the stutters made the game unplayable. water 2 runs fine and looks good, but a shame about that. thanks for the info i will stop messing around with config file now!

P.S you have saved me a lot of time and effort thanks

yes a really shame, but hope some day nvidia give us a solution, or we will have to wait until BoB SoW will be released to have max water with out stutters. anyways i'm always looking for some way to fix this in many forums with no luck, but i keep the hopes.

I also sometimes have stutters above water although I use water=2. The stutters appear on some maps when there is a lot of water on the screen and they happen periodically about every five seconds. When I look towards land or sky there aren't any stutters. After map change or game restart I usually get steady 60fps, but sometimes stutters remain.

Sometimes forest also kills my fps and I nearly always lose fps and get more stutters every time I hit refly after QMB mission. A restart of the game solves these problems and loading different map or plane helps in some cases.

I have 2x GeForce 8800 GT in sli, Q6600, 4gb ram and 64bit Vista. I use high quality settings with vsync and 4xAA+16xAF and my resolution is 1920x1200.

Does anyone know these problems and possible solutions? Perhaps the forest and reload problems are caused by some mod, but I don't have time to test with different mods and game/driver settings. My problems are also quite irregular, which makes testing difficult.

are you running the game on 4 cores? Just a question

I have enabled multiple cores in conf.ini and allowed the game use all cores, but only one core is actually used. CPU usage is usually 27-30 % when I fly, and one core is almost fully loaded and the rest of the load in on another core. I haven't overclocked my CPU yet since I use boxed cooler, but I think CPU doesn't limit my fps since the game is smooth at 8x time with 20 AI planes (if stutters aren't present). When there are stutters, the frequency of stutters increases linearly with faster time. Stutters appear sometimes both online and offline.

one thing you could try which can help the stuttering is the new dll. test each on in turn

1.locate files corep4.dll and core.dll in your game folder
2.create a folder on your desktop and move these files to the folder
3.there are 5 sets of dlls available in the download extract then place the core.dll and corep4.dll in the game folder. make sure to keep the originals safe. after installing the core files in the game folder test the game thoroughly over water, etc. try this with each of the 5 sets of the dlls different ones work for different people. i found that the first dlls work for my 9800gx2s and reduce the stuttering effect. keep the files organised so you kow which ones work best for you. to birdman, it is not your system which isn't fast enough, like potenz says it is newer nvidia driver limitations/incompatibility with il-2 but hopefully one o the dlls can help improve the stuttering, as your system should easily b able to handle water 2.

oh yeah these dlls are available in the download section o the site, if you have any success post back so people with similar configurations can see if it will work for them Big Grin

I'm using the latest dll's because they fix my white polygon flicking problem. Maybe I should also test earlier ones.

Yesterday the Italy Online map was stuttering over water all the time at AAA server and game restart didn't help Sad
Luckily next map ran smooth.
