Absolutely anything you can throw in my direction would be appreciated. There are precious few visual references on the net which I can find. Other than a few photo's I've managed to dig up some modelling diagrams which aren't bad. If you can manage to do a few scans that would be great but if you can recommend some books I may order a couple anyway.

Excellent pictures there, Davew. I've seen the last one before. The others are new to me.

The horn balances are easy to sort as we can just borrow the tail plane from the Mk Vb model.

Excellent DaveW I was wondering when you would pop back in.

From the detail of you earlier posts I knew you had some good accurate info for these planes.

It looks like we really want to model the Merlin 63 and 63a spits if they have that much Horsepower.

Do you have anything resembling performance graphs for them?

I suggest just modeling the merlin 61 into the converted airframe and the merlin 63s into Ranweres conversion or if GBrutus feels up to it modeling them from scratch.

I've been looking around for the performance curves, but I can't find the two books that I know have them.
One is Spitfire by John Vader, that book is superb, but you might have a little difficulty finding it Brutus, I haven't seen it in shops at all. I doubt it would be all that expensive if you did find it though, given the specialist subject.
The other book which I have around somewhere is Spitfire: The History by Eric Morgan. I seem to have misplaced them when i last moved. I would very highly recommend both of them.

Most of the other books i have on Spits are just text and pictures,- graphs are generally a little dry for general reading so they dont put them in......

This site - http://folk.uio.no/hungnes/avia/spitfire/mkixvar.htm - has a few errors, but the detail drawings may be useful. It also gives a description of many of the changes (which saves me typing it out)

I'd also forgotten about the wheel blisters... :oops: But their absence is evident in the photos above, should have remembered.

Of particular note for the F.IX is the changing form of the carburettor intake under the nose. The Vc conversions would have the same intake as the MkV, but the others have the shorter form of the IX, and then there was the elongated one with the Aero-vee filter in it.

This photo shows the middle version of the intake, which would probably be the one you'd want to model?

Very good news. So if it is possible to rework a 3D model for early spit IX we also need a new skin template. I made the template for the FW-190A-3 because I had a lot of information about that plane and I now Know every single screw and rivet. :-D

Perhaps there is a skin expert for Spitfires too. I saw some very detailed and historical skins in the skin section (rivets, lines, colors, decent weathering). I will ask the makers if they are interested in making a new template based on an existing Spitfire.

At first I was more interested in the early merlin 61 conversion but the performance of the merlin 63 spit will be something to behold - if we can get enough info for a flight model

Yes we've found that one - its got performance curves for the merlin 61, 66, and 70 spits but we(I) haven't found the equivalent for the merlin 63 spit
