BETA - Battle of France - Part 1 (4.09)

Has anyone found a way to get the 3d trees to work with this great map?
How must the load.ini be edited?
I have compans textures in my tex folder. Should I try using those?

There are no 3D trees in towns but you should see them ok in the countryside.
They were not used in the towns to keep the object count as low as possible.

Hi guys.

Great map and I can use it, but not open it with FMB.

Anybody has any idea how come?

You mean FMB+? The file size is too large. It should open fine in normal FMB.

How is the progress on this project?

There is a separate thread started for Part 2.
Part 2 extends the fully populated area to the north edge of the map, so covers Holland including Rotterdam and most of Belgium west to Brugge. So most of the area required for the opening moves of Battle of France, apart from Northern Holland, is covered.

Things are dormant at present, but not forgotten. Various other things are having to take priority for the moment. I am slowly progressing the Rotterdam area which is now looking reasonably good. Needs much more work though. In particular I need to add extensive industrial areas --- and the odd airfield here and there.

Thanks for update Asheshouse, I was wondering too...

Thanks for all the work.
I think that I'll be spending a lot of time with this map. The map runs pretty fast on my primitive system. Maybe it's because it's olny 25% populated.

Thanks again.

MR_G - Part 1 is roughly 25% of the map area but since there is no sea in that part its nearer 35% of the total objects. Part 3 is nearly 50% sea.

The "speed" on any PC is mainly related to the number of objects on screen at any time. Those that are off screen don't have much effect. So flying over a large city, if you look down and fill the screen with objects you get a slow down in performance. Look up at the sky and its speeds up again.

I spent a long time experimenting with object densities before completing Part 1 and made rough mock ups with the total map populated to prove that it would work. My budget is 1.2 to 1.5 million objects for the total map.

Just need more time to finish it -- but at the moment work is having to take priority.

asheshouse thanks for taking the time to reply. I am looking foreward to its release. Historically this map will cover a lot of fighting.

Sorry II/JG54_Emil
Only Part 1 of the map was completed. This covers the area of the Ardennes, River Meuse crossings and west as far as Cambrai, all of which is fully populated with buildings.

The Channel coast and the northern part of the map is complete in terms of coastlines, rivers and bridges but has not been populated. At the moment I have no time to do further work on the map, but have no objection to others taking it on. At the time the beta was released I thought it was better to leave on the unpopulated area rather than crop the map down.

If I start again I would probably extend the map north to include the Netherlands more fully and reduce the density of the buildings to about half of what is in the current map. That would make the actors file more manageable.
