Hi!
My game runs on perfect settings smooth 60FPS, but when I start recording with fraps it drops my FPS to 10.
I tried to lower the settings; no effect. I tried with 1 plane and 32 planes, same result.
What could be the reason for the FRAPS to act like that? It worked fine before.
Does the same for me, though you are doing it the wrong way.
First you record whatever you want with the Track function in game and then you record the Track with FRAPS, that way you don't lose FPS or get Lag in the video/Flying.

What If I did it like that?
I have been using FRAPS for a long time and find only about 30% drop in framerate during recording.
Make sure that your destination drive (for the recorded files) is on a fast and prefrably seperate drive to the game.

I tried it with my comp's HDD and an external one.
FRAPS records with almost 0 compression, so the resulting files, as you've probably noticed, are very large.
I do get the framerate hit, same as you Cnopi, but not that bad. When first starting the capture, there is a big lag, an for a bit afterwards. Mostly I notice it when panning the view during the capture, there is a lot of jitters.
But as pointed out, the beauty of IL-2 is that you can make a track file, then selectively record from that. Normally, you don't need to capture with FRAPS at the full resolution you would use when flying, because your final video product is usually going to be a much lower resolution anyhow, so I run the game in a window, at a lower resolution to make the capures. That helps keep the frame rates up for the video caps, and may even allow you to bump up some of the graphic settings.
Years ago, when I first started doing this, I would record a track running the game at 1600x1200, then replay the track and make the captures at 800x600. Now I have a big 1920x1080 HD monitor, and I'm making 720p HD captures, replaying the track file at 1280x720. This is plenty for a video.

Hi guys
I read somewhere that if you play game in "Windowed" rather than "Full Screen" you get constant 30fps
So I tried it and IT WORKS,for the first time EVER I can get constant 30fps even with a large
amount of objects and over water.
I us IL-2 primarily for Moviemaking ,so can live with Windowed screen But might take a bit of getting
use to for game play. 8)
TRY IT
CM6
heres what has helped me:
*newer ext HD
*lock frame-rate @ 30fps
*hide overlay!
*record at 1/2 size!
*and of course, tweak your confi and vid card settings for max performance

Windowed mode with no FPS counter and with locked 20FPS made no difference, my records look like this:

have you ever tried to use the Half Size settings? as it says the FRAPS recording will be half size but it's still big enough to record and have HD quality option on youtube:
FRAPS CONSOLE> MOVIES go under the Video Capture Settings and press half size
