Anyway to get directional indicator's on Allied Carrier-bour
#1

Hi

The pilots directional indicator is fitted on the following planes:

Pe-2 series (except Pe-3 & Pe-3bis)
TB3 series
A6M series (All Zero's have this on them.)
G4M1 Betty
D3A1 Val
Also a number of late war German jet aircraft have this on them.

Surprisingly not one of the American carrier-bourne aircraft have this on them, would there be anyway of being able to mod it onto a new cockpit for an allied carrier-bourne aircraft?

Just asking,I like to fly full real and Navigate.

Thanks

I'm sure that is could be done by taking one of the existing ones and putting it in. that could be used until someone does a real version.

I was always sure a TBM was an American plane. Was wrong or?

No,your right....TBM is an American plane built by General Motrors, and I'm right as well ,the Il2 TBM doesn't have a D.I.

The TB3 Series does though,

That's interesting that it may work

Hello Skymaster

I don't know a huge amount about the USN aircraft - do they have a PDI in real life? if not I doubt you will find such a thing at here at AAA.

Yes the Allied aircraft had HI in real life and there is no allied carrier bourne aircraft in IL2 that have them in this game.

The way the compass works is a joke,it points to the next waypoint on the map lol, which works for a "game" but is far from real....Real Pilots in WW2 did not have there compass's point to the next waypoint on there maps....

You really need to check out the planes listed above and compare what they have to what Mr.O put on the Allied aircraft....He put a HI on the Zero's !

Theres a good thread over at M4T on the compass subject right now I stumbled upon, which is why I thought I'd ask.The Zero has a true Heading indicator with a compass in the middle and a beveled ring that turns outside and around the compass.Which can truly be used to Navigate.

I'm suprised that in a flight sim there such a lack of radio navigation,it's how they really did it back then.

As an after thought, radio navigation is how they Navigated back then and still do to this day.

I've always hated the way point tracking about this game.

Thus the reason I host with mini map on so you can find yourself on the map for the guys that can't navigate.

I figure if its crap we might as well make it Game freindly for those guys.

I'd love to see a 3rd party ADF installed, like we were able to do in CFS years ago.

actually, the Wildcat, Hellcat, Corsair all have a "radio compass" in the game and have always had one. Same with the P38, P51, but the dang P47 has 2 "normal" compasses which makes no sense lol. You are correct in that RL navigating was not followign the pointer to waypoint A then B etc... but I think it makes sense for a "game". If I wanted to actually fly beacons and such, I'd be flying FSx or soemthing (which I do a lot of the time).

All I know is that have a much greater respect for the pilots (on both sides) flying out over the water with only a watch and the sun for navigation.
