BULLET RICOCHET ON THE GROUND REQUEST ..........
#16

Hi
I did read it all, but surely misunderstood the meaning of it - sorry, english isn't my native toungue/language.
But the video of the gatling is now added to my favorites - its freakin' awesome.
Have also had the pleasure of watching the RDAF make live shooting practice with their F-16 falcons, and those "bastard" planes have the vulcan M61 20mm gatling cannon installed (capaple of 5000-6000 rounds a minute). The target area was lit up like nothing i've seen before - amazing and somewhat unreal...

It was common practice in ww2 to knock out tanks by shooting underneath them: the ricochets then pierced the armour from below as tanks weren't very heavily armoured on the bottom.. But this means those ricochets bounce pretty hard.. 8)
I would love to see this in game: in red orechestra eg the ricochets of tracers are fantastic! Confusedhock:

I play RED ORCHESTRA too, my nickname is FIGHT-CONAN Smile

And if you take the MG-42 in RED ORCHESTRA, direct hit can kill you, and ricochet can only hit you... except if the gunner is a lucky bastard and the ricochet could do a head shot...

Was kill by one of my men due to Pulemetchik (DP-28) ricochet

What reference to this do you have ?.... sounds like an Old wives tale to me and impractical to use with any consistency.

Ricochet trajectories are affected by so many things that to use it it as a predictable feature seems impossible to me. In addition so much energy is lost on the first ground contact that any real ballistic penetration of a hard skinned target would be lost. Not forgetting HE fuzed ammunition which would most likely detonate on first impact.

Real world studies (which I have based on DEFA 30mm Ball ammo) show typical ricochet trajectories after first impact on various surfaces. Typically the round deflects up to 30 degrees from the pre impact line of flight. This is caused by round rotation that can be as high as 50,000RPM (clockwise in the case of the DEFA). For those rounds that do ricochet the typical climb angle is around twice the impact angle.

In the case of water Ricochets do not occur for impact angles >10 degrees.

A veteran of WWII told it in the serie "dogfights" on the history channel.
You can also see a long discussion about this on the site of "mythbusters" : http://community.discovery.com/eve/foru ... 935489/p/1

I don't want to go in discussion about the effectiveness, and if you could take out a Tiger tank with .50 caliber machine guns (which I doubt), or change damage models; just would like to see those tracers bounce up in game when I strafe ground objects!

To the ones that say ricochets are innefective: If a MG-17 round (Yep, 7,92 Mauser 8) ), bounces of rock, concrete, or a normal paved road, it still has enough power to travel through 3 to 5 Confusedhock: human body's, so a few ricochets of those, or a mere single .50 cal ricochet, could still knock out a vehicle like a truck.

It depends of so many parameters... you can not affirm that in this way.

May I call you Sir or God?

By the way, I think (and only think) that is possible ta do that, but I think too that there is more mods in progress that they are more interresting.

Why do you want ricochet?

Ricoched bullet (don't know if that word exist) means low velocity bullet, so it can only hit people and very very low armor. Don't you want too that we made flat tire for damaged truck and building windows broken?

The only thing that it could be usefull, it when guys like Eliott makes beautifull videos.

That is my opinion.

CONAN
i have to say, broken windows and flat tires sound pretty good. that's just my opinion.
