Urgent question for campaign makers
#1

What if I don't set up a target for each mission? I mean if the target is recon - landing, you'll have to return to base to complete the mission, which is unrealistic. If I set up no trgets at all, does that mean that I proceed to the next mission if I don't get killed/captured? Or would it ruin the whole campaign?
Thanks!

reflected, I have never made a mission in my life but there is a setting in the game that allows one to advance to the next mission even though mission objectives were not met.

Many of us use that setting and for those who like to fulfill mission objectives it sounds like you have it right.

If this is not the issue you are trying to address, sorry for butting in. Smile

Reflected, I always set some sort of mission goal because it makes the campaign more interesting, even if that is just landing back at base or passing a certain area in the game. The trick with completing the mission is to uncheck the instant success option before starting the campaign, this way you move on to the next mission even if the goals are not achieved. This works as long as you are not shot down over enemy lines, in which case you will have to fly the mission again. Hope this helps.

I usually set the target as a recon over a key area and another over base

If no targets are set, then you can't get to the next mission without instant success

As F4U-1_Corsair says, you need too set a goal or ask your users to toggle the instant success. I use the compromise that DCG uses. I set a recon target at the takeoff point. The downside is that you get the "mission completed" advisory at weight-off-wheels.

Since you are using the recon function where you are taking off.
Use a timeout of 2 hours with the landing requirement turned on for the recon objective.
If you do this it should allow you to fly the mission without getting the mission complete until you land.
You will have two hours to fly to the mission area get back and land.
If you land right after takeoff though you will get the mission complete if you get below 20 or 30 kph.
Primary Secondary or Hidden objective does not matter.

If you want an example of this start a career with DGen where you fly off of a carrier.
Look at one of the missions it generates in FMB and you will see this is how DGen does this.
Typically you will have two waypoints for the carrier.
The second waypoint is where they put the recon objective.
Move it to the first waypoint and this will still work.

Thank you very much, guys! So it would be possible to set no targets, but with instant success on. I think that would be more realistic, but maybe I should motivate people to get through the mission, and survive, not only going "kamikaze" for a kill, therefore a recon - landing would be useful.

Setting a Recon/Landing icon at the homebase is my preference.
In real life the most valuable asset was the pilot.
For the pilot, arriving back home, alive, was "Mission Complete".
For the planners, you could obliterate the target but once they saw the recon photos they would send you back because you missed a truck on the corner. Not really but it must have felt like that to some pilots.

In my recent campaigns I've either set the target as recon and checked the "Landing'box so that the player passes by landing at the base within the set time (I usually make it an hour or so) or else I've included no objective. I always recommend "No Instant Mission Success" to be switched off so hadn't even realized that my lack of objectives would make it unplayable with the setting tunred on.
