Modelling of cockpits?
#1

Hi all.
This might be a dumb question, already answered, but I ask anyway - couldn't find a proper thread answering my question.
Is it very difficult or mere impossible to model a new cockpit and if yes why?
We've seen so many great improvements of this game and so many repaints of excisting planes, ordannance and or cockpits lately (I'm almost speachless) and which I'm most thankful for.
But I wonder why no one goes into cockpit modelling?
(Much needed, I think - take the Me 410 cockpit for example)

I mean, I for one can't even use photoshop properly (so I'm am an ignorant, I know), but perhaps someone out there (any MOD'er) or other skilled person could solve the cockpit issue/problem?

So many modellers have made new planes from scratch. So wouldn't it then be possible also to redo or make new cockpits?
Isn't it just a question of dedication, skill and will?

Not meant as a complaint or an offence, just curios and thus asking...

Moved - please post in the correct sections.

As for your question, yes it is. Its a lot of hard work, but it is possible.

Seems like a new cockpit is about the same work as a new aircraft from scratch. A lot of individual mesh components, many, many textures to map and a host of moving parts too. Still undiscovered country to a large extent.

Knowing how much work is involved and lacking the tools/skills to contribute, is why I've never mentioned it myself.

But it's always been on mind too, since the first AAA flyables pack, which converted all the il2 models into flyables. I don't like flying half of them because you jump in, as mentioned the Me-210/410 pit, or a Hs-129 and what you have is an Me-110 pit. It feels weird.

I mean I've no right to ask more of the modders than they already do, so I won't. Just saying...maybe one day, it'd be good. You know, professional.

I'm aware modding functions by personal inspiration though.

believe me, modeling a pit is just as consuming as making a new plane.

i have not been here that long, but i did jump straight into the modeling side of things using only the tutorials and tools provided.
i have looked into both pits and planes.
to build a pit, one is in short building it like a real pit and even manufacturing the parts.

Thx alot for ur fast reply - and Magpie, sorry for putting this in the wrong place.
MOD'ers have my deepest respect and I'm most grateful for their effort - using all their sparetime, just to provide me and other crazy plane-nerds new stuff to fool around in on the virtual sky.
Had I had the time, I would have loved to use some time to dig into the problem and try to solve it myself. But then again, I'm an ignorant when it comes to programming and using 3D modelling and sadly I can't use any sparetime on learning how. This due to my workload and studying - takes all my time (except for those sporadic 1-2 hours once in a while, where I take the time to fly!)
So therefor, I'm most grateful for what others have achieved - as we say in danish: Tak er kun et fattigt ord!
(thanks is only a poor word, meaning: it doesn't cover the depth of my gratitude)...
Thx again for all of ur MOD'ers effort...

Hi again.
This might be totally out of question, morally and without ethics, but have to ask anyways.
- Can other sim-cockpits be used in il-2 (just slightly modified)?
Have seen some nice cockpits in CFS 3 on youtube and for what I know, these planes are personylized MOD's like those on this site.
I was wondering, if the author(s) or creator(s) of these CFS 3 MOD's would or could have anything against us lending or borrowing their design/work?
It is not like they have Copyright on it anyways, they use and modify a game already under copyright protection and thus their MOD'ing is in fact (as far as I know) illegal (or perhaps just ethically wrong).
We of course wouldn't use their work, without permission, but we (this could be I) would try to pin down who made the planes and cockpit MOD's and politely ask wether it would be ok to use them in il-2.

Using other sim's models, or even models not particularly intended for use in a sim, is usually more work than it is to start from scratch.

Just have patience, you will be pleasantly surprised in the near future.

Magpie, can I ask a favour. When you get near to releasing it, can you change your sig picture to a B-26 Wink

Cheers, MP.
