#1

I know this is a farfetched sugestion but maybe there are plans for this. Could there be a map mod of a chunk of Europe ie Britain Italy Spain France Germany Malta? Can someone tell me if this is to large a project to workon or is it possible pls?

Thanks and regards

That would have to be at such a small scale in order to fit it all in that it would kind of be pointless.

Joe, the 352nd (Booze an co who are working on the 1:1 scale BoB map) would say differently. I think that later they will model the 'deacon' a 1:1 scale map covering western europe.

Nice to see you by the way, hope all is well.

I am not a mapmaker or anything like that but I think it won't be possible. It is a too large area which the memories of our rigs can't handle.
A good example is Zipzapp's Alpenmap. This great map covers such a large area that many users, including me, have a crash to desktop after saving in FMB or notice a decrease of FPS. For that reason Zipzapp split this map up in two parts.
So a map which covers the whole of Europe would be nice but not realistic.

Would a European map covering northern Europe from England to Munch work for scale so that you could fly bomber escort missions...or is this still to large to be feasable?

Yes, that area is maybe possible. What I was replying to was the original posters question about a map including Britain, Italy, Spain, France and Germany - much bigger than the proposed 352nd map.

...LOL, wait a minute Joe  I think that they also plan to make an even larger scale map than the deacon that covers England, west to ireland, down to portugal and italy; and then west to Germany or maybe even further. Before the 352nd left AAA they had pictures, but since then they won't release them until the Bob map is released or later.

More to the point about how it effects system performance, if you wanted a map of high detail, then such a large map would be pointless. Also this game was primarily designed as a fighter sim, with bombing only becoming expanded as time has gone by. Most flyable fighters and light bombers don't even have the range to cover such a map.

Really, such a map would only be useful to bomber pilots who want to fly a realistic 5+ hour mission. Smaller maps with lots of detail are better in my books than a huge map with little detail and of not much use to the majority of the community.

I don't think that the 352nd Group plan to make 1 map which covers Western Europe.

This is what they say about it on their homepage:

The 352nd Virtual Fighter Group is developing a 1:1 scale ETO map depicting the Battle of Britain arena. When completed, the map will form the basis of two additional 1:1 scale maps depicting most of the ETO.

So that must be three maps. That's the way I read it.

Yes, but the two maps other than the upcoming BoB one will be a lot larger, there were pictures on AAA before they left.

just a thought but what about compans textures since most of the players who use bomber's a lot are in heights well over 5000+ meters couldnt a really large map be made since massive amounts of detail wont be need to be applied to a whole just the airbases and targets and the surrounding area :!:

I agree with creamy. As a map like this will be mainly used for long ranged bombing which will fly at high altitudes so detail apart from airfields and targets and the surrounding area as already said by creamy there is no need for any detail.

In case of these long ranged bombing raids maps with a small amount of 3D objects and Compan's phototextures can be useful for a 1:1 scale Europe map to save memory.
But who wants to take off, get to an altitude of 5 km and fly for two, three hours or more to a target, dropping bombs and fly all the way back?
I think the majority wants to do dogfights or wants to strafe transport columns.

And I was wondering: how will a damaged city look like when there are no 3D objects but just phototextures? I actually never thought about that. :?:
