[WIP]Dewoitine D.520 (former complete noob effort)
#46

Well, the design was ok but I dont think its gonna be fast knowing the IL-2 standarts regarding speed. Its well armed and very maneuverable, but its gonna get hard when fighting faster aircraft like the Bf 109 Friederich. Unless you are fighting on youre terms and manage to slow down the enemy enough to catch him in a turn, a good fighter will love it and will score all type of kills a not so good one will leave it for some upgraded and faster kites. Never the less, on servers wich allow only 1939-1940 aircraft it will be feared by every single pilot wich has to deal with the deadly Dewoitine.

Thank you 332Sqn_Per for the updates!

I hope the landing gears ends up nicely,

Cheers!

Finally, the D.520 is getting modded in Il-2! I am almost shaking with anticipation; I can't wait to fly this gem! Here's, IMHO, one of the best photos of this airplane:

I'll start making some textures for this nice French lady. Smile

As for the D.520's ability to fight faster airplanes, Bulgarian pilots fought against the much faster and better climbing P-38's and P-51 throughout 1943-44 , and also as high-altitude interceptors against bomber formations, with moderate success. It definitely wasn't easy, though. I can translate a lot of interviews and comments on the performance of the 520's against the US late-war fighters and the Bf 109G's when you start working on the FM, I'm sure they would be useful.

EDIT: Here's a photo from the front: http://www.bgalbum.com/albums/userpics/ ... 094fe3.jpg

Wheels are clearly tilted inward.

Is this for the real thing or is it from a game? If it's from a game then it's useless.

Looks like game stastics, aint good.

I know it s a long way to go but if it gets finished a Rolls Royce powered D.530 would be awsome, and a carrier born D.790 would be nice. The carrier born D 520 (the D.790) was never built, the Rolls Royce powered version (the D 530) was never built but planned too. But for the time being lets just hope to hear that beautiful Hispano Suiza roaring soon,

The last, privately-owned, D-520 was lost in an accident in 1983 after appearing at severalair shows, but I can't find any footage of it with sound.
I would love to be able to supply charts, pictures or data but it looks like I've managed to loose all the info I had about this plane. All I can send you now is positive vibrations lol.

Best of luck, this plane means so much to many of us and it is long overdue.

According to the very litte info I still have, it looks like the first production units may have been prone to frequent breakdowns. During Pierre Le Gloan's legendary 15th of June mission, both his wingmen had to break engagement and return to base, the first one due to a problem with his propeller speed controls and the other because his guns jammed after just a short firing pass on a Falco. I'm not sure this will help you though...

Cheers

Yes, seen that one. Great video BTW, could almost pass off as wartime footage.

Thank you messer
The Italian used it in the same role earlier in 1943.
The only thing they appreciated was the cannon ...

How are you planning to do the cockpit?

Is it gonna be a new one?, or are you going to use some other aircrafts cockpit?

Cheers!
