WTF?? Searchlights disappeared.....!?
#1

Hi folks
So, there I was, about 2 hours into setting up an in-depth night-bombing mission on the new Zuti_Slovenia map....one of the last details to take care of was the placing of searchlights in certain areas. Much to my dismay, in the FMB stationary objects list, the searchlight is in the list, but it's greyed out, so it can't be selected... :?: :!:
I haven't used searchlights in FMB for awhile, and not too sure at what point this might have happened. Has this happened to anyone else?
So, an appeal to those a bit more in the know with the static.ini files - does anyone have any idea where I should even begin to look for what might have happened?
Maybe it would be easier if I could know where to look, at least.
What should the correct entry for the searchlight be in the relevant ini file??
Anybody? Cry :?:

....... Cry

I assume i'm the only one with this problem, then.... Sad
Would anyone mind posting a copy of their working static.ini and stationary.ini files?
That would be including all the new hangars, infantry, etc.
Maybe PM me if you can help, thanks... :roll:

I can try and host the ini files for you mate, i have almost everything excluding the Tank Pack (Armor Pack)

Let me know if thats what you need, and I'll sent them over.

PS: I know how you feel when no one answers to a question :roll: I've had too much of those.

That could be just what I need, mate...the Tank pack is the only thing I don't have, either.
Thanks in advance, AIRdom... 8)
Wird thing is, I've compared my ini files with the originals, and the searchlight entry in stationary.ini is there...?>??? Strange....

Here you go, mate. My static and stationary ini files. Don't forget to back yours up in case they fail.

Many thanks, mate....it's weird, though - my searchlight is still greyed out in FMB??!!??
I'm just going to keep this thread going a bit, and see if we can somehow get to the bottom of this.
Maybe someone can gleam some useful info on the way to a solution.
I mean, here we're talking about an original IL2 object that has just disappeared into thin air!!
I've taken the ini's from AIRdomination (static and stationary), compared them to mine, and there are massive differences in the two.
My static.ini is 337kB, as opposed to AIRdominations, which is 221kB.
Because of the differences in the two files, checked in Winmerge, I decided to back mine up, and use the one from AIRdomination. The result?
Same as before, the searchlight is still greyed out!~!! As I said in the heading, WTF?!?
So, an appeal to a static ini expert, hopefully somebody like fabianfred, who can help me decipher this mystery.
If the problem is not with my static ini file itself, where else could it be?
How can one static ini file see a searchlight object on one game install, and not the other? Of a DEFAULT object?
Where's it gone?
Any help, folks, would be greatly appreciated.
If this was an arbitrary object, such as another house, or somthing, I wouldn't be all that perturbed, but my searchlights? Gone is all that atmosphere in night missions.... Cry
How am I ever going to fully enjoy the new night-fighters, without the apprehension of being caught in a spotlight somewhere along the line...... :roll:

Searchlights come under the Stationary Objects tab ...not Objects..... the static.ini is only for the Objects

best to ask FC about this one...he might know

OH mate! Check your technics.ini under SEARCHLIGHTS, see if there's anything wrong in there! That may just be it!

Just go >Edit>Find>searchlights

If there is no find for searchlights (missing line) that may be why its gone!

OK, here is the entry I found in the technics.ini in my MODS/STD/etc/folder:

//======================================================================
//
// Searchlights
//
//======================================================================

[SL_ManualBlue]
Description A generic searchlight. Hands-driven, blue.
Icon antiaircraft

// Models
MeshSummer 3do/Lights/SL_ManualBlue/hier.him
//MeshSummerDamage .... FIXME: do it
//MeshWinter .... FIXME: do it

// Panzer
PanzerType Car
PanzerSubtype 1
PanzerBody 0.001

// Weapon
MaxDistance 18000.0
HeadYawHalfRange 180.0
GunMinPitch 30.0
GunStdPitch 90.0
GunMaxPitch 90.0 // >=90 means 0-180
HeadMaxYawSpeed 6.0
GunMaxPitchSpeed 6.0
SearchMaxConeAngle 25.0
FoundMaxConeAngle 0.0
ColorR 0.53
ColorG 0.84
ColorB 1.00
LandIntensity 3.0
LandRadius 70.0

I don't have another technics file to compare it to, can anyone else check this entry to theirs, maybe see what might be missing? Those two mesh line entries that say FIX ME look a bit suspect..... :roll:

Thanks for the bump, Nocturnum....it is bizarre.
I got so riled up about the whole thing, that I made another fresh install of the game, just applied the UI...but from the word go, I'm getting errors straight off - regular AC aren't selectable (as flyables) in FMB, QMB doesn't recognise default plane loadouts, all kinds of cr*p.....my earlier version is running sweetly with almost ALL the mods, but it just won't let me select searchlights in FMB.....in fact, I've had a look at earlier missions which have searchlights, and the searchlights just do not appear in the mission....freakin' weird?!?! Confusedhock: No error message, nothing.... :?:
Anyways, I'm in no great rush over this - it is Christmas, after all - but if anyone of the more experienced modders, re: static, stationary and technics ini files finds the time - I'd really appreciate some help here.... :o
Maybe, in the process, we can help some of the newer guys with some of their issues....
I would have thought that usiong someone else's working ini files would at least pinpoint the problem, but I've used AIRdomination's working files, and my searchlights are still greyed out in FMB - the problem HAS to lie elsewhere... Sad
