Remove White Filter
#1

I've been trying to use the 'remove white' or transparency filters in both Paintshop Pro and Adobe Photoshop, but without success.

I've downloaded Macks whiteremove filter and installed it in the appropriate folder for both PSP and PS, but I can never get it to work.

When I try it in PSP (my preferred editor) I always get a message that the filter is not installed properly - which of course it is. I've put it in a number of different plug-in directories and always get the same error message.

In PS, the filter doesn't even show up in the list of filters to choose from.

So my question is, to those in the know or with more experience - obviously I'm doing something (basically) wrong, but I can't figure out what. Is there anything I should be aware of with this filter?

I can try and help with photoshop version.......first, a few questions:
which version photoshop you using?
OS?
Do you have the file, it should be: MACWHITE.8BF, in your photoshop/plugins folder?

If you have remove white in your plug-ins folder, you simply double click the selection for remove white in the dropdown and it deletes the white portions of the selected layer. Most likely on a void.

For Gimp users, you can remove white with out filters ,you can also remove any other color as well
with out filters.

That's not really the problem. It's that neither Paint Shop Pro 7 nor Photoshop CS2 show the 'Macks White Remover' in the pull-down menu options. It just doesn't show up anywhere. And I have installed the file in the proper plug-in directories and made sure that both programs are pointing to the correct file locations.

PSP also has an inbuilt (?) 'remove white' filter, but I always get a message that it is not installed properly.

I've been following a vid (in flv.) tutorial downloaded from simmerspaint shop and it all seems very straightforward and simple to use, if only the filter would show up in either PSP or PS.

So I'm wondering what in the world I've done wrong.[/img]

Photoshop got a built in function for selecting certain color ranges in your image Wink

Yes, PSP has a similar function. You set the tolerance, get a selection of a specific color range and then you can select 'similar' color ranges without having to click them one by one. Works quite well.

But that doesn't seem to be the same as the demo I saw in the simmerspaintshop tutorial. Transparency seems to come out all differently from what I can make of it.

I had the same problem as you agracier, I posted a thread about it here:

before I figured it out, but the way I fixed it is in there.

Pirate is absolutely right, I forgot about the missing MSVCRT10.dll file!
Once you d/l the file, just put it in your photoshop folder and it'll work -
i don't know about PSP, though....maybe it's the same issue?

Unbelievable - it works ... a simple fix ... but you have to figure it out first, which would be impossible with no experience. Or else you have to ask others more experienced. Usually the best way.

Thanks to all for the speedy and very useful replies. You've all been very helpful.

No problem, glad you have it sorted out - and without it (hopefully!) taking as long as it did for me.... google is not always your friend Confusedhock:
