Vichy French Indochina campaign.

Hello Pete,

Do you have a yellow outer ring on the fuselage's roundels? :?: I believe these were used by the reborn Arm

Hello Vincent, the rings are actually an off white, I've done this to reduce the glare that unaltered white produces. I have also faded the paintscheme and markings for the same reason, tones things down a little and stops them appearing too vivid in colour. I also tend to use a noise layer which again dulls things a little and makes the colours a little easier to look at in the sim. I haven't yet added any codes, need to do some research on these. I usually try to do a selection of individually numbered aircraft, this looks better in game I think, but if the information is not forthcoming I leave them blank rather than have each aircraft carry the same code. Mission four is now more or less complete, just two more to complete this particular period of the conflict. Will post some screens in a few days showing some of the detail.

Wishing you and yours the very best for the New Year, Pete.

Thank you for your reply Pete; so they are white, that is fine. Smile

I sent you an e-mail with copies of an article of 2003 which was sent to me by a French simmer from France Simulation. It does contain pics and profiles, for your review.

Cheers,

Vince

Thank you very much Vincent for the article, some nice artwork there, not sure how to go about translating it yet though because they are image files and I can't find a way yet to paste the text into a translater, I'll work on it though, should be a facinating read.

The following are images of the oppositions aircraft that will appear in the Vichy campaign.

I have found two images to use for the KI-27, this one of the 64th Sentai is by Graf.

The KI-48 isn't available in the sim so the KI-21-II takes its place.

This is the second KI-27 skin, I don't know who the author is as I found it in my PaintSchemes folder, if anyone has any idea could they let me know please. This depicts the actual unit confronted by the French, the 84 Dokoritsu Hiko Fell, I believe this was part of the 64th Sentai, although I'm not well up on the Japanese order of battle so please correct me if I'm wrong on this.

This skin for the KI-57 Topsy is by Archie.

The airfield I made to for the opposition, the files for the skinmod already in place as you can observe by the static aircraft.

Same airfield, other side.

The advanced base from where the Japanese launch the assault on Lang. I've mainly used tents, this is a shot later in the campaign so they have been reduced as the force has left. In the French article that describes the base, buildings are mentioned, not quite sure what type of buildings so I just used the shelters illustrated here. It would seem unlikely that the buildings would have been substantial in nature due to the fact this was a temporary base, but who knows? I have the Topsy's landing here during the first missions to stock up the supplies.

The first four missions of the Vichy/Japanese encounter are done including the briefings, just two more completes that part of this campaign. I will then move on to add briefings to the crossed over Thai campaign files which have been adapted to fly from the French side.

Wishing you all a very Prosperous and Happy New Year, Pete. Big Grin

Super Pete! Big Grin

BTW, will we have the chance to fly not only the MS406, but also the U_2VS (Potez 25 fake) during the campaign? It could be interesting to fly a couple of missions with both standpoints (the guy who escorts, and the guy who is escorted...).

All the best,

Vincent

No U-2VS Vincent, sorry, the campaign has been primarily made to fly the Morane 406, although in the Thai part of the campaign you may get to fly the Bf 110 as a Potez 631 hack. I agree it would be interesting to play from that perspective, maybe someone else might make a campaign of the exploits of the Potez crews, would be good I think. I hope to finish the six missions that deal with the Lang son incident in the next few days, will E-mail these six to you so you can see how they play. The article you sent me has set off the skinning bug again, I may do coded and un-coded versions of the Potez 25A No 1980 illustrated in the article, not sure how those Red and White checks will wrap in the skin but I feel the need to find out! It is a great pity that the Tiger Moth doesn't have its own slot in the sim, I'd quite like to do that scheme as well, both static and flyable, ah well.

All the best, Pete.

The campaign is now all but finished. The six missions of the Lang Son incident and the twelve missions of the Thai campaign have now been put together and made into the eighteen mission campaign flying for the Vichy French. All briefings are now done and the campaign is being playtested.

The biggest development of recent weeks has been the abilty to now set the aircraft to fly for the actual Vichy squadron E.C. 2/595.

This has been made possible because Vincent, aka vtrelut, asked Gaston if he would add this unit and E.C 2/596 to the morenations mod. A very special thank you to both of them for taking the time and trouble to help with this campaign. I appreciate all your efforts.

Prior to this I had to set the player aircraft to GC 1/7, a Vichy Morane squadron which operated in Lebanon, to ensure the player would be in the aircraft I wanted. The unfortunate thing about that was the GC 1/7 pendant appeared on the aircraft which obviously looked odd to those familiar with French markings.

The aircraft as it now appears set to E.C 2/595, all markings are on the skin. Gaston has set this so that no badges or pendants appear for the aircraft set for E.C 2/595 and 2/596.

Vincent has also sent me two more French tunes to go along with the one Tom, aka Craken, was kind enough to send me. I have converted these to Wav files and will upload all three with the campaign so that individual players can select the one they prefer. The three tunes are Marechal, nous voila!, La petite Tonkinoise and A la France donnons des ailes.

I don't yet know when gaston will update his MoreNationsandsquadrons mod to include the E.C. 2/595 unit so that all the community will be able to play the campaign. I have the necessary files in order to set the campaign up and test it, but don't consider it appropriate for me to make them generally available without Gaston's permission.

Hopefully the next time I post will be to announce the upload of the campaign, until then I wish you all the very best, Pete.

Hello Pete,

Gaston's mod is uploaded here, including an English version compiled to suit AAA's mods structure.

I don't know what I'm doing wrong but I can't get my campaign to load. I don't have a Pilot Career labeled Vichy either. I inserted the Campaign into my France Folder in which it is listed but when I try to play it I get the map and the briefing but why I hit Fly I get an error at 25% saying can't locate EC 2/595 Regiment Mission loadup failure.

I hope someone can help with this problem.
thx, tim

You need to install the more nations & squadrons mod by Gaston, version 5 or above. D/L link is in the read-me.

Campaign folder should be in a new folder for Vichy France, named "vi".

Hello Tim, as vincent has pointed out in the previous post you will need the morenations mod to run this campaign, it contains the files for E.C.2/595 made by Gaston. The campaign does not go in the French folder but has its own folder vi, which is for Vichy France, this resides in the same place as the French folder but is like having a seperate nation. All details are included in the readme, as are the links to the necessary files. Just copy and paste the link into your browser to find either the English or French version of the morenations which Vincent has kindly made available for download. If you need any further help E-mail me, either here in the forum or to my personal address which should be in the readme with the campaign.

Wishing you all the best, Pete.

Hello Kerlir, the campaign can be downloaded from the Mission4Today website as can the version of the campaign where you fly for the Thai Air Force, it is in the modded section. You will also have to download the latest files for the morenations mod, see vincents link in this thread.

All the best, Pete.

Hello Mission_bug,
Thank you very much for this campaign !
Is there a way to use it with the "Forgotten countries" mod of Sanka ? I've tried but I got this error message :"Erreur pendant le chargement: mesh 3do/humans/Paratroopers/Russia/mono.sim not created".
What can I do to solve this ?

Cheers
