Anyone got any information as to whether anyone is doing one of these?

Slow dropped it as a project - i think it's now open again to be taken on by a willing volunteer.

And let's hope someone picks the baton up. It's sorely needed for attacking targets on my Channel map Smile

Yeah, Canon's right...sigh...I might even take it over a Lancaster as far as BoB scenarios go

i wish slow hadn't quit that project. i can understand why though. but that was probably the one plane i wouldn't have chosen to ge dropped.

I'm glad Slow did drop it. It wasn't being worked on and people didn't feel able to start working on it because it was already 'claimed'.

We should drop the word "claimed" as we already made with the maps. It only slows production

It didn't work with projects under IL2Skins.com (? - right site? .. memory fade) being 'claimed' by 3rd party modellers. Some got finished, some got finished but of pretty inferior quality and not accepted.. and a lot of them lost all hope and sorta disappeared with the site itself..

It shouldn't be a claim situation.. no one is getting paid and this ain't a competition.. but i don't really know what the true solution should be.

nb. This isn't a jab at slow.. just a general comment.

This is one plane I would dearly love to see, and I didn't know that Slow had dropped it - he was quite adamant he would do it when asked about it a while back. I have some 3d modelling skills and wouldn't mind having a crack at it, but I couldn't possibly do on my own. It needs a team - anyone interested?

If you want to take up the build, and do so, then I can help you with what I can (advice and information wise)... If you're seriously interested - start looking for as much references as possible. Decide, now, what exact version(s) you plan on doing, and accumulate specific information on that. Get some nice hi-res blueprints (three view's), and plenty of photo references. If someone has the information, or is willing to assist you with that, then latch onto them and start getting your knowledge base up beyond the norm. For these birds you should be ok in getting decent references. You will find that highly helpful in the near future.

I'd also, from experience here, suggest very strongly, that you find a competent skinner (preferably someone who builds templates or has the ability to do a skin from scratch) and get his assistance; this will cut down your workload - which will be immense for a build from scratch. I can help you with the 3D work side of things; knowledge hand over, etc, but getting the above will be very helpful for you.

If you are interested in the assistance I can provide, send me a PM or Email...

Hawkers, I'll happily help you with the texture. I skinned the default textures for the F6F, Betty, Val and some others for PF, so I'm used to making textures from scratch.

In other words the only decent defaults in game

If there is a team available I'll help with it... It's just a bit too much to do of my own

I dropped this because I was too busy doing other stuff and didn't want other people to feel bad about taking over this project. I do not claim anything and you may do any of the projects I am currently doing myself of you own

Well, chaps - it's good to know there are a few souls out there who really want to see this bird in the game, and are willing to do something about it. Big Grin

Magpie - many thanks for your kind offer. Your point about good blue prints is a key issue. I downloaded some scale drawings of various early Do17 versions awhile back, and quite honestly, they didn't cut the mustard Cry

What we need are some good hi-res drawings which include good fuselage and wing foil cross-sections. Internal airframe details would also be good. A preliminary search for websites and books that could provide good enough drawings didn't reveal too much, so if anyone out there knows of any good drawings either on the net, or published, let us know

As for photo references - anybody that can contribute (particularly cockpit references) will be welcome

I'm assuming most folks would like a Z variant - much needed for Canon's new map, and any early war campaigns

Canon - absolutely yes on on your offer to do the template skin Big Grin You must have your hands full - what with the Maps, and your family - so your offer is appreciated Big Grin It will be a while, but if we can get the 3d model built and mapped, you can work your magic on it

Slow & american - if you can input and if you started any work that could be used, that would be great. A build from scratch will be - as Magpie says - immense, and if we can assemble a team for the 3d work, it will be easier for everyone, I hope Big Grin

Anyway, Chaps, I hope we can get a ball rolling here. Big Grin
