Here are a few more authentic color photos from during the Great War. These are not hand-colored afterwards, but were taken by the autochrome method, a color method already commercialized by that time, though expensive and not all that widely spread.

These are taken from 2 different war-time publications, that were published in bi-weekly installments as magazines. They featured true color photos only - something of a rarity in magazine publication.

No offense, but there is no 'full' collection of Great War color photos. There are undoubtedly many different collections of color photos, some collectors even have but one or two original color photos, different from the ones in the above collection.

With a bit of luck you can find such photos in specialist shops, or more likely by happenstance at flea markets, book fairs and what not. And undoubtedly there are still many more still awaiting 'discovery' in attics or wardrobes throughout France. And this is surely true, a vast majority of such color photos have been lost over the years.

You might be interested to know that not only were true color photos taken during 1914-1919, but also moving picture footage in true color. This is extremely rare to find and as far as I know I have only once encountered an instance - namely the Grand Victory Parade down the Champs Elys

Agracier, you're right, a "full" collection is impossible because many items are circulating in the
market of antiques, however I meant the ones available on the net, just like freakypunk did.

And if you read better I said FRENCH autochromes of WWI because this site:

is property of french government (gouv.fr) and photos come from their archives.

That anti-aircraft photo has to be the clearest WWI photo I have ever seen! Hell, it looks like it was a modern photo with age filters put on it.

If you wish more, Hurley's war photos may be found in many sites,
but mostly in Australian War Memorial's one.

When in the AWM site: http://www.awm.gov.au/
go to "collections" then"collections search" then use -Paget- as keyword if you want only colour pics or use -Frank Hurley- for the entire b&w collection of his photos.
