The game won't start :(
#1

Hi!

I've got the community mod installer.

So the other day I was messing around with my config file, trying some new graphics settings and stuff. I also tried the old "dll trick". Then the game refused to load. Of course I had backed up my old files, so I just replaced them and tried running the game again. But it wouldn't start!

Worst thing is, this happened to me once in the past too. Then I had to uninstall the game and install it again. Surely there must be a rational explanation and a way to fix the problem? :?: Can changing the config file somehow make any changes to other files, which now means it won't start?

I have tried switching to 4.08, and I also tried installing some of the new dlls (The link is inoperative)
, but that didn't work either.

Any ideas at all?

Do you mean it crashes at 60% loading? if thats the prolem remove the "MODS" and "files" folder from the game and re install the Unified Insaller. But if that doesn't work bro don't ever mess with the confg.ini file AGAIN!!!. Arrow

Ah sorry, I wasn't specific enough. No, it doesn't even display the loading screen. I double click the .exe file, the hourglass appears next to the cursor for a few seconds, and then nothing happens. Sad

try waiting one or more minutes... I also had a problem with the DLLs. If that happens u have to reinstall the game. Inructions for reinstall, First go to Computer "C:/program files/ubisoft/il-2 Sturmovik 1946". Once u r there move all of the following files to the desktop, MODS, files, paintschemes, samples, users, quicks and missions. Then create an icon on your'e desktop called "IL-2 Sturmovik 1946". Put the IL-2 Sturmovik DVD (game disk) in your drive and click uninstall. Uninistall the game and follow the next step. Next click the install button, it should ask u were you want to install it and look for the "IL-2 Sturmovik 1946"
on your desktop. This will install all the files to the 1946 folder on your desktop. Next, once you have installed, get the 4.08m patch from file front and download. Next get the Unified installer and download all of the 4 parts. Once u have done that, delete the files and MODS folder in the 1946 folder, and drag the original MODS and files folder back to your 1946 folder on your desktop and also all the other folders (paintschemes, missions, samples ect.). Once u have done all of these steps run IL-2 Sturmovik 1946 and enjoy! Arrow Big Grin THAT SIMPLE.

I had exactly the same problem yesterday. I was trying to get my game to display in widescreen resolution (1440x900 - my monitors native res) by changing the height/width options and the game responded in the same way - maybe you tried similar? is easy to change back if this is the case 8) I've never had this kind of response to any other changes in conf.ini

OK, looks like I'll have to follow StormGuy's advice and do a reinstall. When I get it working again I'll never mess with the config file again!

Thanks for the help guys. Smile

I have isolated the GAME CRASHING CTD at 60%. The problem is with the AIR.INI file.

You have to find a AIR.INI file that works. The issue is with one or more Aircraft Lines.

I personally have two issues, the FW190-A3 and the new Seafires. Both cause CTD at 60%.

Fw-190A-3 air.FW_190A4 2 g01 SUMMER

This line works at the end of the INI files, but ONLINE, the FW (enemy only) does not show up.
Notice the A4 designation. If A3, game CTD at 60% load.

STD/COM/MADDOX/IL2/OBJECTS/air.ini

If the game crashes at 20% or 60% reinstall the AC Installer(Get newest version). This always works for me.
