Autorun
#1

iv been having this problem for quite some time now(its not really a major problem but its kind of annoying) but i would like to try and fix it. my computer doesn't recognize things properly lately like when my mom wants to get some pictures off the camera and plugs the usb in nothing comes up. i have to do it manually through "my computer".. or when i put a dvd or cdrom in theres no autoplay anymore i have to go find it in my computer and click it to play..

any suggestions?

You need to re-enable the 'Auto Play' functions in Windows.
Let us know what version of Windows you're using and we'll give you step by step instructions.

Click Start>Run>regedit>

Next navigate to the following registry key:

HKLM>System>CurrentControlSet>Services>Cdrom
Change the Dword value of "AutoRun" from "0" to "1" (0 - Disabled, 1 - Enabled)

O.k.

Check for this entry as well:

- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
- In the right pane, right click the allocatecdroms entry, the Value should be 0
- In the left hand pane, select My Computer
- Click on edit, and go to find
- Search for "NoDriveTypeAutoRun" without the quotations
- The HEX value must be set to 0000 95 00 00 00 to enable the auto-run.

Try these articles and see if they help.
First one covers pretty much all Windows O/S'
The second one is for Vista, but much of the information is still valid.
