Mod Request: Air Refueling
#1

Hello,

First question: did air refueling exist during WWII

If yes, which planes could perform air refueling (Allies and Axis sides please)

COuld somebody create such a mod?

That would be great! Maybe we should set a rule so that nobody shoots planes during refueling, but I guess this could have happened, no?

And before I forget, it would be great if somebody could also create fuel effects , such as fuel loss when hit or during refueling/ i mean: a BETTER effect that the one in Sturmovik at the present time (we barely see a greyish trail when the fuel tank is pierced : I believe it should be darker rather, not even mentioning oil loss...)

Good-bye

Operational air-to-air refueling wasn't used until 1948, so no, it wasn't a feature of WW2.

Hi,

I found this interesting article about air refueling.

http://www.centennialofflight.gov/essay ... Tech22.htm

It seems that it dates back back to the 1920's but that it wasn't used in WWII...Too bad Sturmovik doesn't feature WWI planes, so we would have really dangerous refueling with dangling hoses...
The strategy during WWI was to have large internal fuel capacity for long-range bombers, so that says it all..
Still, if we could refuel our jets in Sturmovik, that would be cool (though non realistic)

There is a great fuel effect already out there...

Its in the 3rd Eye smoke/fire effect package...
the fuel leaks look like a misty volumous trail .. and its much shorter to take into account the dispersion of the fuel into the air unlike smoke.

It looks Fabulous..

though expect some what of a frame hit if you dont have a super video card because of the smoke trail effects in thta package.

Air refueling in IL-2?
Good luck my friend! I will not say it is impossible, only improbable...

Although, if you looked into how the Baka + Betty works... perhaps you could manipulate that function to work with... umm... a B-29 or something. Because apparently in multiplayer one guy can select a Baka bomb, and a friend can taxi over with his Betty... and one of them presses the attach/detach button, and voila! A flying suicide team!

So, if you could get a plane modded (with it's own slot of course) to be a "host", and mod another to have the Baka's function of latching on at a certain point on the host, it might work. Once that's done you'd have to program the host plane to give fuel to the little guy until he detaches. Also, you would have to code in the minimum distance the attaching function would work from.

A lot of work...
Would be worth it if you are serious about it.

Better yet. The I-16 and the Tb3 have a very cool trick under there sleeves. You know that when the I 16 is attached to the Tb3 it burns the fuel that the tb-3 provides it with. Not from it's own tanks.. That means a fuel system sort of a thing is already possible,

you mean doesn't have WWI planes yet!

If Mid-air refueling is nonhistorical, then how about ground refuelling? It'd be really neat to be able to land and refuel. The the "TB-3" could just use the model of a fueling station with pipes on the ground.

Now what'd be REALLY awsome is if this would work for ammo also...

I think he just had a great idea..... Because I don't think see the historical proof to have a mod for WW2 Refueling. Now the ground refueling can be great for maybe some type of compotion or in a DF Mission. You can have a airfield with out a spawn point but a tank to fill up your plane ( That way you can stay in the area longer or if you just want to stay light through out your flights) ILl give it a +1

not only does the TB-3 supply feul for the I-16, but it also refeuls it, albit slowly.

Perhaps a human air traffic controller could be used? A new "aircraft" is created specifically for this controller who will sit through the mission permitting other aircraft to come to him and "dock" for refuelling?

This would be the most logical method... The only difficulty would be the spawn system... Ie, your ground unit would need to be mobile to bypass people spawning inside of him...

+500.

again same thing. Please leave IL2 as WWII era sim and go to LOCK ON or others with modern planes if you want this and other stuff.

Yeah that would give online play a whole new dimension. Ie, you have a lack of ammo or fuel, and you head for a friendly airfield, get your bird on the ground, go to a fuel- and ammotruck, wait a while, and you can take-off with new ammo and fuel.

Can't such things do with an area or so?

EDIT sorry for smaal pic, hope you guys will understand
Black: airstrip, taxiways
Green: spawn, parkingplace
Red: ammo and refuelling
