New .50cal & .30cal & now 20mm sound mod Updated 04/
#1

This one is different.

It uses several files playing together at slightly different speeds. Eldon45 discovered you could run multiple sound files simultaneously from the presets file. I used the 50cal wav file from the new UI and resampled it at various speeds and have them all play together. I think it sounds much more convincing than what we've had so far.

I've just added a new version for the .30cal. The British 303s use the same file so it works for the Spitfire, Hurricane & Gladiator too.

version 3.0 updated 03/28/09 Catahoulak9_Sounds_v3 contains 3 mods
Sound_New_50cal v3.0
Sound_New_30cal v3.0
Sound_New_Hits_v3.0

version 3.1 updated 04/08/09 Catahoulak9 _Sounds_v3.1contains 3 mods
Sound_New_50cal v3.1
Sound_New_30cal v3.1
Sound_New_Hits_v3.1

version 3.2 updated 04/17/09 Catahoulak9 _Sounds_v3.2contains 5 mods
Sound_New_20mm_DE&JA_v3.2
Sound_New_20mm_US&GB_v3.2
Sound_New_50cal v3.2
Sound_New_30cal v3.2
Sound_New_Hits_v3.2

This is the next evolution of the original mod. Each wav file now has a left track and a right track with different sound on each. I still use multiple files but fewer now, and the sound is much richer and more textured.

I have also included a damage hit mod using this stereo/multi-file technique and I think the results are pretty good.

Hey Cat, my files are converted to WinZip automatically. meaning that it is no longer a .rar file. Can these fils just be placed in the files/samples and the .prs placed in the files/presets?

Well I tried that and I see that only four of the eight guns fire on the P-47 so that's noy the way to go I guess, removing...

Best sound mod for the .50, period. Big Grin I recommend this mod.

RRuger,

It shoudn't matter if it's a zip or rar as long as it unzips. I suppose you could put everything in the Samples and presets files in the files folder but you don't have to. Just put my Sound_New_50cals folder in your mods folder. That way if you don't like it you can just delete it or use the "-" technique.

I'll give that a try Cat, but I have to ask you, is the file name Sound_New_50cals because when I got it WinZip just opens to the contents. I see all the .wavs and the .prs but as far as being in a folder that isn't there. Thanks for your help and I'll just go with what I'm pretty sure of and make a folder with that name...

Ok, that worked and they sound great, than you for the MOD Wink

Oh, okay. Yes the name of the file is Sound_New_50cal. In it should be 2 folders: a Samples folder with the 6 .wav files, and a folder called presets. In the presets folder should be another folder called called sounds. In the sounds folder should be the .prs file. You can name the original Sound_New_50cal anything you want but it needs to have the Samples folder and presents folders in it to work.

Like it, just two points:
- i think the sound is too loud, compared to other sounds (was comparing corsair 6xmg vs 4xcannon)
- it plays too long in some cases, i released the fire button and it plays for a second more

But i still enjoy this mod.

ZUTI,

Glad you like it.

The sound level is set for my system. If it is too loud for yours you can change it easily by opening the weapon.MGunBrowning50s.prs file in the presets\sounds\ folder of the mod and changing the [spl] value from 120 to maybe 110 or 100. Experiment and see what sounds balanced to you.

As far as the over-run sound goes, you are right. There seems to be one gun that sometimes runs on a few rounds after the others when you release the trigger. I'll see if I can tighten that up some and post it back here.

I sure love how the P-47 sounds when you let go with all 8 guns.

Great.

Looks like 110 is what is best for me as any lower and sounds from outside are too quiet and if it is higer then sounds from cockpit are too loud Smile

Thanks again.

I just posted a new version at the start of this thread. I reduced the number of files and fixed the over running sound at the end, but I don't really know which one I like best right now.

I downloaded the earlier version for diagnostic purposes. Except for that lagging gun, I loved it.

DL-ing the new version now. Big Grin

Thanks poncho. I like it too. I solved the lagging gun issue just now on the original version and it sounds great. I'll post it later this afternoon, I've got to take care of some Valentines stuff or I'm a dead man.

Well I didn't totally solve the lagging gun problem but it's a lot better now. I like the way they don't end abruptly anyway. Here's the latest version:
