Should I install New1.1 installer
#1

I know probably a stupid question but...I used the 3 part AAA installer some time ago to install nearly every thing & have the newest AC installer as well...so my question is should I install this newest installer & if so are there any tricky bits I need to worry about? Many thanks for your patience... Smile

Interestingly, I was in the same boat, and decided to stick with 1.0 along with the mods I have installed in addition to 1.0. There were a number of reasons I decided to stick with my current set up.

1) Open offline campaigns - I have a few open offline modded campaigns (Karelian Blues, Biggin Hill, etc...) I am flying and these will require a refit of a UI 1.1 installation to ensure all necessary mods are available. I ran into problems attempting to run these offline campaigns after installing UI 1.1, and decided to revert back to my current MOD/Files configuration.

2) WIP Mods - UI 1.1 will require the need to review any WIP mods installed, and configure them accordingly. I love the pinups in the cockpit for example! I decided to keep my current config to avoid this work/step.

3) Stable/tight Configuration - My current MODs configuration is tight, works well and I near fully understand the configuration. I am familiar with my inis and the load sequence to ensure everything works correctly. Installing UI 1.1 will require a review of the inis if I decide to install any MODs on top of UI 1.1 such as shipPack or buildings, and/or other object mods including planes.

Of course on the flip side, UI 1.1 sets a standard for an AAA configuration. This allows a level playing field especially for online Modded experiences. Additionally, if you are not code savvy, UI 1.1 makes for an easy way to improve the game experience.

All in all, if completely new to AAA, then definitely get UI 1.1. If you have a vanilla UI 1.0, then yea, get 1.1. Though if you have additional MODs installed, especially related to offline open campaigns, then avoid 1.1. At least until you finish the offline campaigns.

My plan is to finish my offline campaigns, and then merge as I see fit my current MODs configuration with that of 1.1. I have both configs on a backup drive and can compare/contrast to merge in those MODS from my current config that I want under 1.1. Though for now, I will wait until finishing my campaigns.

PS: Kudos go out to the UI 1.1 dev effort and its an amazing offering, along with all the other MOD work. Every day I visit this site, its like IL2 gifts given near daily, and I love viewing/experiencing the tweaks/changes set forth in the MODS. Great stuff, and great work to all those who make this happen!

I wonder...I have several of the new offline campaigns in progress but some of them have stopped mid campaign with a" Cannot load :Null "message...don't know what to make of this...?
Let me asl this: If I decide to install1.1 then should I do as instructed - remove Mods folder( copy it else where ) inatall 1.1 & then drop in the countless Mods into new Mods folder...or just install new 1.1 over old Mods folder?? Confusedhock:

...best way would be to have another fresh installation and apply AAA UI 1.1 on it ... then add one by one desired additional mod ( copy from present version) with checking compatibility between each one .

as for FMB goes , do bear in mind that order of objects has been changed ( cos of added additional objects...)

Definitely "cut" and "paste" your current "MODS" and "Files" folders into a backup location. I use a "yyymmdd" folder naming convention for my backups so I know when the backup was set. I recommend also using an external HD since each backup is roughly 4GB in size. Once you have your backup, you can simply cut and paste into your il2 game directory as needed.

Currently, I have two backups. One for my current 1.0 + additional MODs, and one for UI1.1. By swapping the Files and MOD folder, I can easily interchange the two.

Regarding the Cannot Load error, perhaps you are missing a recommended campaign MOD, or have it misconfigured.

James,

I hesitated to install 1.1 after I saw that it contained about 25 mods fewer than I already had. There seemed to be some very perplexing ommissions from 1.1, but I guess there is a reason for that.

I went ahead and did the work (yes it's work) and got 1.1 because that dang P-24 beta screwed my sound up and I didn't know how to fix it. I also wanted to have a basic UI 1.1 installed without any additional mods in order to be on the same page with everyone else.

I then made (yet another) copy in order to mod it to my liking. So I've spent parts of the last few days adding over 25-30 different mods back into it and testing each one individually to make sure everything works OK. The advantage is (1) Now my sound all works and (2) I have a clean UI 1.1 base.

The disadvantage is, I've got several different copies of this game glutting up space on my HD, and I've had to invest a considerable amount of time adding and testing all of the mods that I wanted into my "modded" copy of UI 1.1.

My recommendation is, if you spend as much time with this sim as I do - go ahead and do the work. Especially if you plan on making skins, splashscreens, missions - or even making some mods yourself.

More good advice! Do I need to cut & copy" Files "folder as well & then paste it back or just leave the new "Files" Folder alone?

I haven't touched the new UI files folder at all.

Many of the mods, effects mods for example, you only have to copy the folder and drop it into your new UI that you are going to mod. Static objects of course require you to copy/paste their folders and also their corresponding lines from the statc.ini, no big deal for those.

Again, it is recommended to have a base copy of UI 1.1 with no additions, and then a second copy that is your "modded" copy of UI 1.1.

Interesting to see this thread...

Remember, the UI is not advertised as the "SUPERMOD" to end all mods. Just a great place to start.

Here's what I did. I installed UI 1.1 to a new folder, not a new copy of the game just a new folder. I then took a look at what went where and what was new and cut and pasted what I wanted into my 1.0 install.

Hey, I'm happy so far!
