Each of the tools comes with a readme file.

Believe it or not you have to read those :lol:

The tool you need depends on your project.

If you plan to make a new map then a good place to start is Clockwatchers Microdem Tutorial.
---or if you have a good ground map to copy start with map_c and add the map_h layer later.
