P51 Windscreen blotches problem (not a mod) Fixed!
#1

Hi,
For many years I and others have problems with Blotches (yellowish) all over the P51 windscreen. What most people have in common have is that pilots with ATI video cards have this problem. Does anyone know how to fix this problem? (note: this has nothing to do with mods of any type).

Thanx..

Updated with fix info:
I think it is fixed.. in ATI Radeon Catalyst, changed the Catalyst AI Settings from advanced to standard.

now there are no blotches on the P51 windscreens.

Correction form first post,, it is the P51C model with this blotch problem.. but I have a squadmate with a problem with the P51B model cockpit blotches. (ATI Video card)
I am worried the new p51 cockpit will disqualitfy me from the servers that do not allow mods. I need a new P51 C ( the problem is only with the P51C model) cockpit,, PLus, I do not want any blotch mods.. I am trying to get rid of blotches. I wil checkout that p51D cockpit anyways..
thanx...

A screen shot showing the problem would be most helpful.

I've seen this before.

Hate to be bearer of bad news but, you might want to check to see if your Vid Card is OK.
temps? heat sink and vents clean/free of dust?
Did you just install a new card?

Like I said this has been happening for at least a couple of years, and in different computers.

Might be a driver issue.

Hey Ramstein,

yes it could depend on the current drivers.

(But also it could be an Overclocking Bug, be sure to set Clocking on Standard)

D/Load the newest ATI Driver for your Vid-Card, new Catalyst is out (check version vor XP or Vista).

Before installing new one, remove your current driver completely (System Control->Software).

Now reboot your Computer, so the old Driver is completely removed.

Now install new one...watch for Error Messeges (if non, you're good to go Big Grin )

After new install, reboot your system once again...

Now, please try again ingame... the bug should be gone (hope)

If not, keep us posted.

Like I said, it has been happening a couple years in different computers. This means other video cards too. I currently have ATI Catalyst 8.11 drivers. No reason to try 8.12 as all the previous drivers since the beggining haven't fixed the issue. I am not Overclocking anything. I am going to try a couple more video settings, but have already tried many. Plus I am not the only person wit this issue.

I don't mean to sound ungrateful for help, it is just that all the help so far has been on tried settings and over a long period of time with different computers, hardware, etc...

BTW I use WinXP. 32.

Thank you,
Sincerely,
Ramstein

Hi,
I tried the AI Setting again as suggested... I moved the Catalyst from Advanced to Standard and it appears to have fixed the Windscreen Blotch issue and No longer have the Blotches.
I will need to try more planes and more flying to see how everything else is now.

Thanx to all...

Update:
While the changed settings removed the blotches on the P51 Windscreen, it also caused the screen to freeze and the only way out was to reboot. So, it's still screwed.

I to had problems with blotched windscreens. I read your fix, and it worked. Now, I have a question about this "Catalyst A.I. setting" thing.

There is a box to disable A.I., and the slider. When the slider is all the way right, the blotches are there. With the slider all the way left, the blotches are gone. And there is no way to adjust the slider part ways, only all the way right, all the way left. Also, with the disable block checked the blotches are not there. My question - is there a recommended setting? Check the block, or slider all the way to the left, or, does it matter? Reason I ask, I am not even sure what this A.I. stuff is and I would not have touched it had I not read it here. Is one fix best, and, can you tell me why? Does adjusting it have some other effect? You mentioned changing to the "standard" setting, but I did not see any indication of that.

Thanks from one not nearly as computer smart as you guys.
