Mustang III (birdcage canopy) mod request

I think this would be fairly easy; however I have no idea how to do it.

I'd like that as well. I imagine it would be an asthetic thing.. simply changing the canopy.... What you are saying basically is you want a MustangMkIII sans the Malcolm hood... When you state it the way you did it

It should be fairly easy to do what you're asking. I'm pretty sure all you'd need to do is extract out the fuselage msh files for the P-51B and put them in a folder for the Mustang III. Not sure how that would affect opening/closing the canopy, though.

the canopy doesn't open that is correct. I've never made a mod apart from a little font mod but i have all the files for the Mustang MkIII and the P51B, and assuming the canopy is only 1 msh file it could be as easy as just swapping 1 file, or it could be editing the msh to make the canopy seperate from both and then swapping the files over and editing the heir.him file..............

Well......

i just edited the files a bit and got that..... need someone to line me up i'll probably get a friend to do that and also there is a missing part of that canopy somewhere.... :S

Now there might be some problem, as u can see this one i've done it the opposite way so the P51B has the malcom hood and u can see that part of the canopy on the P51B isn't in the canopy msh so that needs to be extracted somehow... how i don't know...

The P-51B or even C are American IIIs, the Mustang Mk.III is a RAF British P-51 (Super Mustang) which has less dry HP than the P-51B/C But has a greater WEP boost and supercharger giving a higher boosted HP and far better performance up to the 24,000ft area, above that the P-51B/C are faster and is a far better high altitude fighter for high altitude fights. From what i gather you are asking for the American P-51B/C to have engine of the Mustang Mk.III the only other American aircraft to my knowledge to be given the RAFs Mustang MK.III engine was the P-51 H. Which had the same HP as the P-51B/C but was given a greater WEP, superchargers and various others to give it HP in the excess of 2200 and reduced fuel for greater speeds.

Btw, the P-51C is faster than the P-51B in game due to the Malcom Hood. The P-51D is faster than the P-51 C at low Heights and the P-51C is the fastest Mustang in the game if you go where its optimal is. Therefore if you were to give the B the FM of the Mustang MKIII still the P-51C would be faster. FM discussion on swapping FMs is not allowed here but from what i read perhaps it is just aesthetics and I will allow this for now but will keep a close eye on this.

EDIT: Hawk has the Bird cage external on the aircraft now but to have the birdcage cockpit you would require a cockpit change, is the aesthetics enough or does it have to be on the internal as well?

Lt wolf, he was asking if he could get the birdcage canopy on a Mustang III. No FM changes.

Hawk, can you tell us what you had to do to get the birdcage on the Mustang III?

If the C is faster than the B because of the Malcom hood, then that's a serious error. In reality, Malcoms were fitted in the field on both B and C models. Also in real life, the only difference between the two models was the factory where they were produced.

From MustangsMustangs:
Quote:In late 1942, the Brittish and the U.S. sucessfully tested the Rolls Royce Merlin V-12 installed in a P-51 (NA-91). The NAA production plant at Inglewood, Ca would be at full capacity building the new P-51B. NAA decided to expand their plant in Dallas, Tx to build more P-51Bs. The B models built in Dallas, were re-designated P-51C.

Apparently, quite a few pilots preferred the Malcom-fitted B/C to the D model. Performance was roughly the same, but the visibility (especially downward) offered by the bulged Malcom was better than that of the bubble on the D. Rearward visibility was not quite as good, but a small shake of the tail was usually enough to rectify that.[/quote]
