Control the pilot in the ground
#1

On a offline campaing sometimes you parachute or make a crashlanding very close to the "border" between your band and the enemy controlled zone. In order to avoid been captured and have to retry a mission that otherwise could have been a very succesfull, COULD BE MADE A MOD TO CONTROL THE PILOT AND MAKE HIM WALK (OR RUN) TO REACH HIS FRIENDLY ZONE?

Thanks

If I knew how to do it, I would be using every chance I could get to get that mod working.... Big Grin

Hope somebody does that sometime; it will really bring IL2 to another dimension

Thanks for your opinion Mangas.

I dont mean nothing like MOH or COD or else, and less a first person view. Just a way to move the pilot (like the way he runs when exit the plane or lands with the parachute) some hundred metres running or walking. I were not thinking in the great evasion or in Hartman or Rudel running days to return to base.

A simpler way would be to do it like the old European Air War sim, a randomizer. In that sim, you never knew what would happen when you bailed out over enemy lines. If you survived the bailout, you might get a message that you had been captured or you might get a message that you had been picked up by the underground and were returned to friendly lines x days later. In the campaign you would actually miss the missions for the days you were down. The closer to the friendly lines you were when you bailed out, the better the odds that you would be returned to your unit.

In Il2, you can be 1 meter inside enemy lines and you are automatically captured. I remember flying a particular mission with my old online squadron that really showed the inadequacy of the Il2 engine. I was badly shot up by a bunch of Zekes and I bailed out over a U.S. carrier and its escorts. The message popped up that I had been captured. What? I bailed out over my own ships and I still get captured? What a buzz kill. Sad

This would also serve for pilot rescue missions also where you could use a plane with multiple gunner stations to pick him up.
Then the rescued pilot could just man a gunner position after jumping in.

I just watched that video elsehwere... it's amazing! Why did this thread die right away? It seems not only that it's possible to have a grand theft sturmovik, but it actually already exists!! Where's the enthusiasm? This is about one of the greatest mods ever to be thought of!

Personally I don't see any appeal at all in turning Il-2 into a GTA game... what point is there? E&E from enemy forces after bailing, perhaps, but there's no way in hell you'd be able to make that truly playable (let alone fun) in the engine. Leave that to shooters and the like.
