New default skins are pretty much the whole mod (so far) for the B-17G. If you want just a regular blank skin, I'm going to be posting some generics at mission4today in a few days.

Another bug report - this time with B-17E.

The new belly gunner doesn't work as it should. When manned by human - unless you fire straight at 6 OC level, you will damage your plane.

The turrent uses only Bendix turret controls - up is down and down is up - hence the new moded turret swings inside the plane and fires.

Switching those values will solve the issue.

Yes, is this the same one as one of the 2 bugs I reported earlier on the B-17E/F? Without the visual mod, these 2 bugs do not occur as far as I can tell.

I'm not sure what I can do about the ball turret bug. I'll check it out and see if it's similar to the initial problems with the waist and cheek windows moving outside the fuselage. If it is, it's an easy fix. If not....anyone know Java?


Also, by request, I have added a small download for completely blank B-17F(Multi1) default skins. Linkage is on the first page under the B-17F mod download link.

Controls for the bendix turret are reversed (up=down and down= up) - while the ball turret moves as any other gunner (up=up and down=down). So, when you look down in the ball turret it actualy moves up, inside of the plane. If this could be matched - ball turret with the bendix - we wouldn't have this problem.

The person who enabled the ball turret gunner should gave you a better answer on how to fix this.

My intention is that the "Windows" layer only be used for reference and not enabled when making the skin .bmps. This eliminates the little black edges that can be seen around some of the windows. The navigator windows on top of the nose on the E and F are supposed to be grey and appear on the skin. This helps hide a problem with a black texture (part of the 3D model) that would otherwise show through.

I've been having trouble with the install instructions. I followed as best I could and put the 3do in the B17 folders as described in the text but for some reason they won't show up in game.
Can I have a clear set of install instructions please.

Hi bomberboy! thanks for your work on this amazing aircraft! I started a thread about 3D modelling improvements to the B-17 such as rounded engine cowlings, more rounded turrets, etc. Have you considered implementing these improvements, and if so how much difficulty would be involved? My favorite model is the B-17F, and the visual improvements so far have made a huge difference to flying ths beauty.

Yes, I've considered it, but I really lack the necessary 3D experience to implement such improvements. I've tried looking at taking the ball turret off of the B-24, but since the available mesh exporter/importers don't work with gmax, I'm stuck. If I manage to get about a month free, I might try downloading a demo copy of 3Dsmax and try remapping the B-24 ball turret to the B-17 skin. If I can get that to work, then I'll also try correcting several mapping problems with the -17.

If anyone knows a 3D artist that's interested in helping, PLEASE, PLEASE have them contact me!!

Cant seem to download these mods from MediaFire- keeps saying "There was an error connecting to a relevant database." with the MediaFire page in the background. Any ideas?

Hello,

I have 1946 installed and having trouble getting the B-17 flyable. I have downloaded the update v1.1 mod and placed it in my MODS folder. I have renamed the B-17E folder to B-17E(USA) inside the mods folder to choose that version of B-17... with the EDO folder inside that folder (MODS\B-17E(USA)\EDO\planes\). I created a B-17 mission choosing B-17E as a plane for that mission and in the properties tab the box for flying is greyed out so I can not choose it. No other B-17 mods are in the MODS folder except yours. Please advise.
