EB-Z, P7666, "Observer Corps", was a Spitfire Mark IIa built under the 1st order for 1,000 Spitfire Mk. II, dated 12 April 1939, which were built as Mk. IIa, IIb, Va, and Vb between June 1940 and July 1941.
Built by Vickers-Armstrong (Castle Bromwich) Ltd., she then passed to 8 Maintenance Unit on 15 November 1940 and was issued to 41 Squadron on 21 November 1940. The aircraft was then passed to 54 Squadron where it was converted to a Mk. Vb on 22 February 1941, and was shot down by a Bf109 of JG51 on 20 April 1941. (Source: Allan Hillman)
To encourage national savings, a scheme was devised whereby individuals or organisations could 'buy' an aircraft by contributing an amount equivalent to the cost. In the case of a Spitfire,
