[Download]F-86 Template by US_GRANT (UPDATED 15 Oct 09)
#1

Okay everybody,

Lots of ppl have been asking me to put out my panel and stencil layers, so I've posted my whole template.

Notes:
During my research on the panels I found that the fuel receptecle on the originaly posted template by PeterD was in the wrong place. It is actually FOWARD for the mid fuselage line not aft. However, the stripe that runs around the fuselage in pictures shows the receptecle in the middle or towards the rear of the the stripe. That means the stripe and/or the panel line is in the wrong place. In my study of this, I found both to be the culprit. No offense Peter. In my template I have made an alternate mid fuselage panel line and moved my panels accordingly. When making my panels, I did not use the stripe as a reference. I turned that layer off, put my panels in place according to the research and then put the stripe back on. That is when I found the problem. After making the new fuselage line and moving the panels, the stripe then lines up better with what shows in the pictures, but not completely. I would ask that if anyone who is good at making those stripes (Harpia_Mafra, Bo_Nidle, F-22_Raptor_2006, Hint, hint) could please take a look and make a new stripe....

As to the stencils. I put on a crowd but did not get exhaustive on them. The main reason is that I still wanted to see what was under them. Big Grin The second was that the reference material I was using had stencils from many different models of the Sabre and so some of those did not apply and since I did not know 100% which was which, I opted for a "sampling".

Enjoy and let's see more of those amazing skins.

UPDATE
This template goes with the latest F-86-A5 Sabre. Because I uploaded it in a hurry, I didn't take the time to remove a lot of "fluff" from it so it's a bit big. You also get all my current skins layers. A whole 16 ship sqdn for the 334 FS I made to fly offline with plus a bunch of others I made for fun. Now you get to see how my mind works. Don't get lost, it's a maze in there. Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin

Something I forgot to put in the original post.

Feedback is encouraged. Positive or negative. I would only ask that all negative feedback please include what is wrong and a fix for the problem. Please no blanket, "This ****** up, fix it!".

Remember, this is my first attempt at a template. I still have a ton to learn and am willing to listen to all the more experienced skinners.

Hmmmm, how can I open your template in 3 seconds and mine takes at least a full minute... Anyway mine is only 10mb bigger.

I like some of the stuff on here, I'll take the appropriate layers and credit them for it.

Yours probably has all your other skins in there. I said I was going to "Clean" mine up before posting. That meant getting ridd of all MY extra skins and junk. Tried to keep it as small as I could.

S!

In my view, the template is perfect. For my use, just add a few marks of wear at the junction of panels and other metal layer (I prefer the fuselage a little lighter). Congratulations on the excellent work US_GRANT.

Haria_Mafra, Raptor,

Either of you two care to share how you make those nice curvy stripes I've seen on your planes? I can't seem to make that happen with mine.

Also, any suggestions or techniques on making a weathering layer would also be appreciated. Not all these planes should be museum pieces.

After I change the template and add the decals and other marks that I created, my template is now with 45 megabytes. US_GRANT created a clean and perfect template for use by putting only what is necessary for the beginning of the work of creation or modification.

Can you be more specific by what you mean with "curvy stripes"? Perhaps point to an area on one of our skins?

Weathering, if you want one done quick just find a texture layer etc...

I know I have my own skins on it but mine just takes unnecessarily long anyway lol I have 80mb templates that open faster than my 32mb temp lol

If it is of your interest this is what I've done with your template...

I in general don't like dark panel lines and rivets, I prefer the way it was stuck to the baremetal so I've taken some of the stuff and put the opacity down quite a bit on them and added it to my metal. (For skins that I paint nearly on the whole plane I have another folder to make the rivets and lines darker so i can see them.

Panel overlays I thought some were a bit exaggerated so I fiddled around with the opacity as I have done with most of the layers. Not quite sure about that airbrake layer...

Changed the hierarchy of the layers to suit the way I've been skinning it.

Hope this helps. (This is mainly personal preference.)

Very mutch anticipated.
Could you please share the fonts you are using on this template?
I have a couple of USAF fonts from Simmers Paintshop but according to my PS CS3, there is no match yours... :?
Thanks in advance.

It looks like a great template, but the thing is, it won't open in any version of Paint Shop Pro, not even as a psd file.

Normally the latest versions of Paint Shop Pro can handle psd files with no problem, but not this template. I keep getting a ''key adjustment' error - whatever that means.

Is there any way to make this template into a Paint Shop Pro compatible psd?

To the best of my knowledge, I only used the fonts that were already there. The only one that could possibly be different is the one I use to give PeterD and Lieuwe credit for the original template. That one is called Georgia; other than that, I don't think I have any others on there that didn't come with it when I DL'd it from PeterD.

BTW, I use the same fonts from Simmerspaintshop too.

I tried that already with ZEPPO. I couldn't find another file type that would work. Anybody else have any suggestions?

ZEPPO said he was gonna get Photoshop.

I think he is looking at the USAF. Notice on most skins people have done that the F is normal but in real life and at least on my skins, I haven't noticed others yet but GRANT probably did the same the F has slanted edges. Also if you find proper good profiles notice the number 5 is completely different. So far I believe we as skinners don't know what font it is if it is one. So the F just has certain edges rubbed out so it is slanted and the 5 I haven't figured out so I don't do any skins with a 5 on the 3 letter tail code.
