Jet Engine Sounds
#1

Would anyone of you gurus look into tweaking the jet engine sounds? F-80A & F-86? Don't seem quite right, not enough "whine".

Are you talking from outside the acft or inside? From years of experience working on jet powered acft, I can tell you the planes are quieter inside (i.e. little or no whine) than they are outside where the whine is rediculous. I will say this, there is a difference in the type engine installed to the amount of whine. For example: The T37 wasn't called "the Tweet" for nothing, very whinny engine. In comparison, the F-4 was rather quiet. That was because of the type engine the Phantoms had, the J-79. The F-15, on the other hand is equipped with the F-100-PW-* engines and they have a higher whine rate.

The above mentioned acft all flew axial flow engines. The F-80 and F-86 would have had the earlier centifigual engines. I believe those were quieter than the axial flow engines.

Could be wrong, but I think I'm at least close.

Grant, thanx for your reply. I'm sure you're right. The engines just didn't sound quite right, to me but with your experience you would know more than I do. I was just comparing them to the F-86 sounds in FS9. I also served onboard the Oriskany in '63 but I'm sure the engines we much different by then.
Guess I'll leave it to PeterD, he's done so well thus far. I'm sure everything will come out fine. And BTW thanx for the great F-86 skins, they're much appreciated.

I've been flying modern jets (Beechjet, Citation) for 10 years now and It's amazing how quiet they are inside, just a little whine and that's about it. So I was very surprised when I heard this...
