Deep Canyon in Map
#1

This is something i found when trying out a map I finished on my own. It doesn't seem like a true terrain feature, but this is like an almost vertical canyon ...

In one of the pix, you can just about make out what seems to be a tree or two hovering in the air by itself ...

Anyone ever have any experience with this kind of oddity?

A great idea for map modders, very good for a DF map.

Well it wasn't so much an idea as a surprise ... btw what's a 'DF map'?

DF means dogfight.
It would be cool if someone made a map of hills or mountains ,valleys and canyons to fly and fight
an excelent dogfight playground

Those trees in the air happen when the incline is too steep. I remember the early Slot map had the same issue.
Also, if you fly off the Kuban map, beyond the mountains, you will see the same thing.
If you want to know more, try a serach here for the Slot Beta thread, right near the start.

Looks like a fun thing though.

Check your Map_h file for thin black lines - that's probably what's causing it...

I worked up a 1:1 map of the Grand Canyon with many custom textures - for my own amusement - and would share if anyone was interested. It has 4 fully functional airfields with at least 12 spawn points, , roads, highways, and a railroad. Makes a fun dogfight map. BTW I did have the problem with the "floating trees" but resolved it by setting any textures over the steep terrain as _fields.[Image: 0104200922-19-56.jpg]

That's actually very cool looking Viking. I'd like to have it and I'll bet many other would too. Let's see if an Admin. stops by and maybe we can link it up for D/L, nice...
