Maybe you could try resizing the textures that make up the canyon walls. In your load.ini, put ',2' or ',4' or even ',6' at the end of the line which contains the texture for that part of your map ...

ex:

Mount3 = land/summer/Spain_Tex_512_07.tga

becomes

Mount3 = land/summer/Spain_Tex_512_07.tga ,2

Don't know if it will necessarily help, but it's worth trying out.

If your texture is a stratified rockface, reorient so that it is 90 degrees to what it is currently - you'll end up with it looking like this - [Image: 2104200922-01-14.jpg]

I'll try to upload a beta grand canyon today. It was a lot of fun. A couple more pics -

Some of these screenies remind me of Nellis AFB, which began operations in WWII. I flew out of Nellis for many of my Jane's USAF training missions.

I had thought that Nellis might make a decent map, but all they trained there IIRC are gunners Tongue

really a good work, Viking!
Please, upload your map!!! Thanks in advance...
Your map could also be used as an other NorthAfrica map, because it reminds
very closely the landscapes of Atlas mountains:

AND, why not, could be used also for Spanish civil war in southern regions of Spain,
that somewhere are nearly desertic:

If members here like mountainous maps, I've made a few that are only in the one texture and no airfield/city/road etc stage.

But they work. Anyone who'd like to take them and work on them further is more than welcome. I have only just succeeded in getting this far and i strongly suspect that there will still be lots of work to do before they are to anything near minimum standards.

I have the Straight of Hormuz, Red Sea, Iraq, South Spain (the one with the deep canyon in this post) and a Gran Chaco map.

I hope we can have your maps, Agracier!
Personally I am not able to make changes but I will like however to fly on them!
thanks!

viking4570 please share this amazing grand canyon map!

What a fun it must be to fly with echoing roar through this so tight corridor, limited by sky-high walls that are lurking for grabbing your wingtip and crashing you deeply at the dark bottom...

These canyons look fantastic and i wouldn't mind having a go myself so just a quick question
How do you re orientate the textures on the canyon walls?

The game places textures on the map in an east-west orientation.

So if you have a texture with lines through it - and you want the lines to orient north-south, you'd rotate it 90 degrees. My Grand Canyon map has two sets of a certain heavily stratified texture - one for vertical walls that predominately run north-south and one for east-west . This gives somewhat the effect of a sedimentary canyon wall. --viking

Here is a link to 6 maps. Gran Chaco, Baza (Southern Spain with canyon), Straight of Hormuz, Iraq, Morocco-Spain and Red Sea.

Please remember they are all start-ups without airfields, no roads, towns and just a single texture. Feel free to do whatever you want with them, including deleting after one try ... ha ha. But they do work and most have lots of mountainous terrain.

There are new textures included. Install instructions are in the readme.

I will choose one of these or another and see what I can make of it, try turning it into a more or less usable map. Probably one without a coastline or too many rivers or towns.

Please choose the download 'maps' in the following link.

Don't mind if they are still "rough", we will have a lot of fun to make airstart missions
under new skies!!!

A big THANK YOU for sharing your work!
