Very poor frame rates, is it my Graphics card driver?
#1

Hello People,

I am having issues with my Il2 install where the game runs quite poorly, the frames seem quite low.

At first I thought it was maybe the latest mods that were causing this, but now I am not sure, as I have tried disabling them all with the mod enabler gui and it seems to make no difference. I also run Rise of Flight on my machine which runs very well.

I know I have recently upgraded my graphics card drivers and thought maybe it is that.

I run an ATI 4850x2 card, so an older model. I am using one of the 10.x generation drivers and someone told me online the other night I should be using the 9.16 drivers with the hotfix.

Is anyone able to help me to get this information, as I am not sure which driver is best or what hotfix is required, and get my game running smoothly again.

My machine has an I7 processor with 6Gb of RAM.

Thank you.

Actually need more information first.

How do other games run with your current drivers is the first question I have.
If all is well, we need to look at your conf.ini file for IL-2.

After that take a look at Fireskull's and my articles for tweaking, streamlining your system. (also located in these forums)

Post the info we need and we'll do what we can to help you out.

Hello,

thank you for your prompt reply. As I said Rise of Flight runs well on my machine, which is the only other game I have, although I did have the Wings of Prey demo which was also running well.

Where can I find the articles that you mentioned please?

Many thanks.

They are both right here in the Help Desk.

IL-2 and PC help. They are 'stickied' at the top of each section.

Maybe the ProcessAffinityMask setting in your config.ini file is one key(?).

The above thread is the best source/guideline for info to solve any probs..
I use the 10.4 driver for an AMD quadcore system with Ati HD 5770 graphics. Since this driver forced me
to go through a dance to get IL-2 running, I wouldn't recommend it, if another works better.
I maxed out my graphics settings in the Ati control panel, that seems to be helpful to
get the best performance for newer cards (yours is a newer one as well with lots of power, much more than mine AFAIK..).
I disabled Catalyst AI and set Wait for Vertical Refresh to "Always Off", ..sorry, I highly doubt these tips
are sufficient to help..maybe a starter.
Remains the question what you define as low FPS. I think your system should rock.

Hello, Cupid Stunt

The card is ATI 4850x2? I assume that means that you have it in Crossfire. You have played two games ( one is a demo ) and they do fine. With your system, you should be able to run IL-2 in OpenGL with Perfect Water.

To be most efficient and save time, do the below steps in order:

1)... The latest Catalyst driver is the 10.7 which you should verify for compatibility with your graphics. The reports by IL-2 users are that this one fixes the ATI issues with IL-2, so far.

2)... Looking into issues in your computer and about IL-2 for getting smoother frames and better image can be found in my tech topic:

3)... On the path of getting smooth frames for your IL-2, you'll need to look at {HVY-E} Jinxx topics while you work through my tech topic: (The links are also in my topic)

The most common causes of stuttering include incorrect core assignment, graphics setting conflicts, and expecting too much of certain graphics settings which are set too high.

This topic was moved to the PC Technical Help forum where we look into computer, software, and very technical aspects of IL-2.

Thanks for your suggestions guys.

I will read through all of those posts over the next week and make the neccessary changes and report back.

Regarding my card, it is not running in Crossfire mode it is two cards in one, which occupy just one pci_e slot, the card has 2Gb of memory.

I have loaded on the latest 10.7 catalyst drivers and all seems well, in that no crashes and the blue hue has gone, but still jerky frame rates.

Also regarding Virtical refresh, I have to run this as always on, as otherwise it does not look good with TarckIR, however that being said, I have never had problems with my frame rates in the past and have always had this setting on.

Thanks chaps.
