Mod Request: Better Bombsites
#1

I have I request for better bombsites, for example not being able to properly set the planes speed and altitude like the plane has a air speed of 195 km/h and an altitude of 2,315 meters and the player can't set the bombsite to be able to hit the target. It also would be nice to have the option to have a salvo or train mode for the american bombers and any other that have that ablity. Can this even be modded or I'm I asking too much?

We do it in formation frequently. Its easy as pie. Usually higher.

Its easy to hit a target in groups, but what about solo or small groups of 2 to 3 planes such as the Mosquito B. Mk IV? It is known that the mossies operated in conjuction with large bomber formations or in small groups to attack targets such as bridges, artillery batteries, and in one case a Gestopo prison.

Our formation runs are usually limited to 2-3 bombers. You just need practice, rather than a entire game edit.

Well maybe I do need some pratice. But I will admit that bombing is quite different from other games that I've done bombing in like B-17 Flying Fortress The Mighty 8th and microsofts Combat Flight Sim 3. And just out of curiosity since you know more about bombing in IL-2 than I do, what is the side slip for?

If you need to practise your level bombing there are a few good video tutorials out there in syberspace. Im sure someone could dig it out for you Smile. Btw the (is it norden bomb sight? ) bombsight used in allied bombers were extremely accurate. Look for your TRUE AIRSPEED located on the left hand side of the bombadiers possition. Then just PRACTISE PRACTISE PRACTISE!

the bombsight is dead easy to use with practice. I can personally hit a pickle barrel from over 20000ft.

Search on youtube fo a norden bombsite tutorial, that will help you.

I think your problem lies in understanding the difference between IAS (indicated air speed) and TAS (true airspeed)

Automated bombsites can calculate TAS for you if you know how to use it. (doesnt actually tell you TAS but you will know when you have set it correctly)

I think there might be a mod available that displays your TAS but I consider that cheating Wink

There's also a bombsight table for feet-meters counting etc.

Are you using the Bombsight that came with the IL-2? There is a mod Norden Bombsight with just the Black Crosshairs. My Group uses this mod and we do very good with it. Even when it is night you still can see the the crosshairs. I am not sure where I found it, but I think a lot of the guys who fly Bombers uses this mod.

Yeah I've been using the stock bombsite, it would be nice to have just a regular norden crosshairs. I've seen a real norden bombsite in a B-29(didn't take any pics though Cry ). But if you could post the link for this mod it would help me a lot. Just an idea maybe we could make some sort of community guide on how to bomb in IL-2.

Well I have to bring this post back from the dead. I've figured out the speed differance but my problem is not being able to set the altitude the what it should be. These screenshot are a good example. Look at the altitude on the speedbar and then look at the HUD messages. The HUD messages are the closest that I can get the altitude to the setting on the speedbar.

Is there some way of being able to make the altitude setting to be more accurate? Because this add up to be a large error in caculating where the bombs will hit. There is also the matter of how the bombsite tracks and locks. In this screenshot there is a black circle at the bottom. This is the where the crosshairs should be. If the Norden was properly modeled it should still be locked on that area and not where they are.

The last screenshot is the result of bomb hits.

And that is way off target. So is there some way of compencating for the altitude and the tracking and locking of the bombsite? And has anyone noticed the way the crosshairs of the german bombsite is exactly the same as the Norden crosshairs?
