Historical Maps, Scenarios, online maps for servers
#1

With a little smile I can remember the time when we were playing the BoB on the finland map with E-7 and Spit Vb some years ago. Operation cerberus was on the crimeca map etc.

Now, with the ability to modificate the simulation, we can create historical maps and new planes.

With the Unified installer the online community has its first mod pack with server support. I visited several servers which are working with the UI 1.1 and it is like a new game. The new maps with the textures create so much atmosphere. The planesets are getting more and more accurate.

The only think, that needs to be prepared much more accurate are the scenarios themself.

Example:
I was on 3 different servers where you could fly the operation cerberus. All 3 maps had different planesets and the position of the battleshipconvoi did not agree with the time. Even the airfields where you could spawn where different.

We have enought information in books and in other sources to make those maps historical.

My idea is to create a pool in the reference libary. There you can start a topic with a scenario (for example "eagle day"). We can put our information from books into this topics. Daytime, airfields, units, orders, weather etc.

At the end we might upload a template of such an scenario.

Eh even with Moded Maps we are not able to great correct Scenarios!
For example the Canon_Uk Bob map:
Not in 1:1 and most of the Airfields are not on this Map

So i think its a bit to early to talk about something like this!

At the moment we do not have a 1:1 channel map but there are several in progress. On the other handside the object builders could make ships that served in the channel. British and german destroyers. Landing boats for Jubilee and for Overlord or Torch. We could need more cars, tanks and guns. The airfields could need wooden aaa towers, parking boxes for bombers etc etc.

All theese objects are hidden on photos in books, in documentary films.

All those little things create atmosphere like the new sounds for the planes at the beginning.

The more accurate the historical settings, the better. And I do prefer 1:1 maps, but there are, for sure, limits to the area and number of rendered objects in such maps. And let's not forget that most maps will be used for different years with different planes, ships and objects in place.

Besides, a lot of the accuracy in such a map will depend on the mission builder also. He can tweak the type and placements of objects and, therefore, increase the accuracy for each mission setting.

The best would be to set a unified standard of evaluation for all maps. I would go as far as to say a set of rules for historical maps (like a unified scale for all of them, a standard for max number of objects to avoid lag, max texture size, etc...).
