[REQUEST] Bf 109 Rammer
#1

Here's an idea for some interesting flying in defense of the Reich. Take the Bf 109 and strip it down so that all the extra armor and guns are gone leaving only one MG 131 with 50 rounds for ramming attacks. If you're a good pilot, you can survive this aerial kamakazie attack. For the basic idea, check out the last minutes of this video:

I didn't think about that. I don't know. Not to pick a fight with anyone but some of the online things are just picky, this may be one of them. There's reasons for, sure, but there's also reasons against having these rules. If an admin reads this, please don't pull me apart. I just thought this might be a mod that shows a different side of German desperation.

not saying itd be a wise idea for the server cuz its already against rules..im talking about offline, but this is already completely possible in-game. ya know how many times ive run out of ammo and carefully taken out a bomber by ramming and surviving to at least bail out of the fighter? (which is what this dogfights reference is saying). if yer careful enough you can do it. i dont think any mod is necessary for this...unless you are referring to the literal stripping down of the airplane in the loadout selection....to the 50 rounds of ammo. but that seems like too much work for what itd accomplish....just select empty and ram the thing! Big Grin

skins of this group that did it would probably be the only good mod i can think of (if theres even any reference to them).

interesting video nonetheless.

No, no, no... What they did was delete all the armor and extra weight so that they could get as much power out of the engine as possible for maximum possible service ceiling so that escorts couldn't get them as they set up their dive at high speed into the formation. Basically the mod, if made, would have a re-tuned FM, reduced arament (1xMG 131 w/50rpg), and highly reduced armor (DM). I read up more on the attacks on April 7, 1945 and out of the eight bombers successfully rammed, at least four pilots survived. However, there were several failures since the planes were so lightly armored, or not armored, that, when the ran into escorts, they got torn to pieces in a matter of seconds, or fractions thereof. Several others had engine trouble and had to return to base. Should be a very simple mod to make for the skilled people here.

luftwaffes deadliest weapon to scare the allies so the germans could build enough jets. Smile

Awesome! The allies were terrified by the idea of someone purposefully using their plane as a weapon. They downplayed the attacks as much as they could and never filed combat reports on any purposeful ramming attack. The final records said that eight American bombers were successfully brought down by this method while the German records claim somethign between twenty-two and twenty-four, at least. Somebody's lying...

Great idea, always loved ramming Ami's myself. 8)

And just my, I repeat, MY thought on the lyer question of the previous post.

Lyer = Allies

Why? Idea Who else whould have had more to lose. I mean, the Germans wouldn't condone it, but the allies could get problems with desertion, complete formation break-up, or premature return of flight groups.

P.S: If you don't like this post, just ignore it

Great idea! for what see in the video, te Bf-109 has doesn't have sight installed. Would it be necessary to remove the aim of the airplane. That serious possible?

-Sorry for my bad english, I'm still learning-

That's what the Germans wanted to have the allies do. The idea was to scare the bomber crews so badly that they they would refuse to fly for long enough that they could get more Me 262's airborne.

Keep in mind that Dogfights from the History Channel is not historically accurate for most things. They do a good job at describing an event, but that's about it. So, it probably had a gun sight installed.

S! thank you to answer me. I`m think probably they no have sight installed, because the less weight and the more visual field and the aiming are with MG-131. Also probably they wanted to save the biggest quantity possible of equipment; it is alone a presumption.

Beats me... In the few sources that mention the Sonderkommando Elbe, the Bf 109's used are only described as having armor and extra weaponry removed. Still, the gunsight is defientely gone from the show and in all the other pit views on other planes I can find Dogfights having there is a gunsight.

As i said, they are only suppositions. Interesting to also make a version without aim (if it is not very difficult) to have the two alternatives.
