[REQUEST] Bf 109 Rammer
#16

Why would they remove the gunsite? just because they didnt model it in the dogfights show doesnt mean anything.

If someone does take this up PLEASE dont listen to the old wifes tails about them sending up old F's and early G's
The aircraft were fresh built machines and Haro Hermann wanted only the lastest high altitude variants
109G-10s and K-4s

What he said... The idea was to let the 109's get as high as possible so that Allied fighters could't shoot them down before they had used their planes as battle axes by hurdling into the bombers.

Not sure if I'm getting into dangerous territory with the following, but if I am, mods - please feel free to edit it out.

Personally I can understand the motive behind outright suicidal rams being against the rules, but when it's carefully conducted as opposed to just an unskilled pilot looking for a cheap kill, I think there should be no case to answer. I recall the good old days of EAW, flying about with my ancient Logitech feedbackless joystick which must've had all of about five buttons including the POV and trigger... I must've been all of eleven years old... I'd seen several examples of aircraft colliding without the pilot being killed, and so on the odd occasion if I ran out of ammo I'd use my prop to chew my enemy's tail off. Quite often it worked, leaving me with little more damage than a dead engine and smashed prop... I belly-landed safely while the enemy plane went down. Things like that are definitely possible in Il-2 with some careful flying and if a pilot is out of ammo or is for some other reason incapable of gunning down his opponent, why shouldn't be be allowed a shot at using his plane as a weapon? Surely if there are enough admins to enforce the no ramming at all rule, they can judge whether a ram is legit or not, and open up a new terror for pilots to face online? It may seem odd, but one of my favourite things to do in any flight sim is to try and nurse a badly-damaged plane home. I'd welcome the challenge of trying to RTB with half my tail gone and some 109's prop embedded in my backside.

Moving away from the matter of online play, I can't wait for the special 109 to be ready... I hope someone who understands the FMB (definitely not me, heh) gives us some interesting missions on both sides of this.

I rather like that idea. I remember reading about a P-51B whose tail got buzz-sawed off by a 109 who had run out of ammo. The 109 pilot managed to crash land his plane and the 51 pilot bailed out and became a POW. Happened around Summer 1944. It would be nice to loosen restrictions as long as they are legit kills instead of noobish aerial kamakazie attacks.
