Hi Flak,

I take it that you need a single, plain (no markings) skin in 512x512 with dirt and wear. I presume the base colour will be the earlier dark blue.

It will not be difficult to put a layer of dirt mud and scratches over one of the templates that we have all come up with independently. We only need to sort out who will do it, as it would be a waste of precious time for all of us to do one....

Does anybody wish to volunteer?

Default skins can be quite happy at 1024x1024

If you'd like, I made a personal skin using a combination of the Panther templates and some of my own weathering techniques. Here it is all marked up, but I can make a blank version too.

I haven't put any markings on it and did scratches weathering etc this morning.... any good? (Not complete final other stuff may be added later)

Template: Combination from Highlander, Bolter, GJE52 (Internals) and myself.

I reworked a bit of the 3d and the scratches are sharpened a bit more. Please note there is a slight bug with the airbrakes in this picture which is now fixed in the skin.

Well, I'll post a few shots of my blank as well. It's up to Flakiten, I suppose.

Templates I used to assemble it were:

GJE52's internals layer
Gords Blue Panther template

Most of the credit belongs to them, I just assembled a few more layers.

The default skin can be 1024 x 1024 and in 24bits colours (not only 256 colours), I allways prefer a big skin with more detail and more colours.

To test the 24 bit colours skin can go to F9F2/summer. Then replace skin1o.tgb with your skin. (needs to be in TGA format)

The skin need the USA markins (but not the numbres). I prefer US NAVY markins. The model will have not overlays making because only tow countrys use it.

Salute.

I vote for Raptor's but Boosher's is superb also.

Here's the US Navy blank. I also did one for the USMC. I believe that different defaults are selectable for different countries. I have both 24 bit TGA's available, as well as the fully blank one. If you want them, PM me.

If you look at the pictures (especially the color pictures) and video available (watch Birdges at Toko Ri) you will see that despite a lot of use, the Carrier Based aircraft received very good maintenance and would not have been allowed to get into "that" bad a condition. There was lots of weathering and staining but the aircraft were repainted, cleaned, and polished regulalry for speed reasons.

To further this argument the picture from Flak's first post shows Panthers that were operated by a reserve unit out of Miami, FL not an active fleet unit. As such they would have been in worse shape than operational aircraft due to more outdoor parking and less rigorous service and maintenance schedules (sort of like VT squadrons). Also, I'm pretty sure that picture was taken after straight wing Panthers were relegated to secondary roles (ie: the Reserves), and in this case the south FL sun, and that furthur explains the sad condition of their paint.

NEW SUPER DETAILED SKIN

With full riveting layer I made from a from high resolution photo in a book I have. Hours of work went into that. I used GJE's equipment layer also.I added faded paint and dirt, smoke smudges and chipped paint at high wear areas. Truth be told these were brand new aircraft and were indeed well maintained so its hard to make them look too worn.

I can make this without numeration for a default skin of course
