Anyone want to paint a couple racing planes for me?
#1

I hate to ask cause I used to do alot of painting but the old wrist say NO anymore.....
I have a little thing going on and need some planes painted like old 30's air racers...Simple paints,,nothing complex,,,nothing really detailed.

Email me a p_delray@yahoo.com if interested.

I guess it would help if you posted links to images you had in mind? (Can't help, too busy)

Just do a search for 30's air racers for the schemes,,,mostly solid color with a scallop or a couple of lines,,nothing complex.

I am trying to wrangle the AI into a little race around some pylons 1930's style..so far it has been interesting,,if you just watch the race it does not come out the same every time...it starts with a mass takeoff on a dirt field and ends with them landing at the same field...three laps so far but more could again change the outcome...I am trying to get the AI to turn sharper because if I fly one of the planes I can win by doing so...Just a little fun and alot of trial and error. of course this would be a snap online with human pilots but I want to have a race that is all AI and very unpredictable.

I could paint them but would pay for it in the end (or rather wrist and arm) I even painted a Waco that was on the cover of PC Pilot mag years ago but time and repitition caught up and now I just think about it Smile

Actually sounds like a fun thing to observe. Smile What aircraft are used?

A quick search gave these:

Did you paint with mouse control? If so, you might want to have a look at a little Intuos or Wacom draft pad?

As a distraction I made an attempt at one, by getting an I-16 template and opening it in Gimp. It's rough, just to see where goes what and how it looks.

Great!, nice start...That is what I am looking for.

I thought about the talblet approach and might try one but the one I want is too pricey. I guess I watched to many episodes of American Chopper where they use that cool super large tablet that is a pc screen you draw directly on. Most tablets you are drawing on a flat while looking up at your screen but this one you actually draw on the screen.

Thanks for the cool graphic,,,looks like a GeeBee now Smile Can I have a copy of that to play with?

Hehehe, that's the side that looks OK but too jaggy. Tongue I'm busy with the 38 pit, but I do some work on the "GeeBee" when I need a break from the 38. Or you want it in this raw state?

Yes if you could do some raw ones for me,,,ones with panel lines layer I could do the rest I think...thanks,

Well, I just went searching for templates and my first stop was the Simmer's Paint Shop. (Downloads->Templates->IL2)

Found the Polikarpov's:

Beercamel's I-16:

Jadehawk's I-153:

Here's my attempt at the GeeBee:

It's a bit frustrating skinning, even with these excellent templates. Just figuring out where the texture transitions into another, so it will link up on the skin eventually... Well, you'll only have to play with the (red) colour layer now. Smile

Googling for the A5M4 I didn't find one, nor on the site. Must be some out there. I would love readers to suggest their template sites. I would like a good Lightning template, please?

(I saw Casey's post at M4T, but no template. Searched for one by "Imme"?)

Found the A5M4 template at FlyingLegends. If you are registered there, it's just a download away.
