Mod Request: Better Bombsites
#16

It's a typical wrong speed in the bombsite.
The crosshairs moves only when the bomber's speed is different from the bombsite's speed.
Try to change the bombsite's speed after lock and you will see the crosshairs stop moving.
There is a table in the online manual with the IAS and TAS in relation with altitude.
You see the IAS in the game and game panel and you calculate the TAS to input in the bombsite.
Again: IAS = Indicated Air Speed; TAS = True Air Speed

I think you only need the bit of practise that everyone needs, and a few arrows pointing you in the right direction helps a bit more too.
The UI 1.1 pack I downloaded had the Norden Bombsight in the B17, B25, and B29 aswell as an accurate crosshair style one in the PE8 russian bomber, so maybe you need that? Its the very first topic in the forum index.

Then check out this link and download the Bombsight Table 2.
(The link is inoperative)
It converts M to Ft, KMH to MPH and IAS to TAS. And if that wasnt enough it also gives you the angle to drop at.

Dont think that's all there is to it though. You would do well to read one of the manuals that are floating around. I know {HVY} group pilots are pretty much experts in this field, as I have learned alot from them in the AAA server. Why not give them a shout, you will usually see one or two around with those Sqadron tags most nights(gmt) in hyperlobby, and I'm sure they could let you know how to get hold of a copy of their manual.

One of my attempts to use the Bombsite Table 2 lead to some frustration. But I think I should explane my troubles in a different way than I have been. One I am an American and two I am one who is a stickler for historical accuricy. In other words I use meters when in German, Japanese, British, and Russian planes and feet while flying American planes. Now I have no trouble with the TAS thing anymore as I have d/led a mod that does that for me. My frustration lies in the fact that if my altitude is 21,145ft I cannot set the bombsite altitude to that exact altitude but instead have to settle with eather 21,150 or 21,100ft, both of which will lead to a large error in the bombsitting and will cause the bombs to hit the wrong area. According to the game manual "B-17 Flying Fortress The Mighty 8th" there are seven factors that involved with bombing, Altitude,True Airspeed, Bomb Ballistics, Trail, Actual Time of Fall, Groundspeed and Drift. That and the Norden bombsite had three "modes", aka Search, Rate and Drift modes. Now out of all of these "factors" IL-2 only takes in to account two of these which are Altitude and True Airspeed. As for the modes well...... there are no modes in IL-2 but are simulated through trim. Also most of my bombing practice at high atltitudes are with the B-17G and when I use the "Level Stabilizer" button a really odd thing happens the rudder suddenley becomes jammed to the full right position and no amount of rudder trim can correct the problem. So after all this rambling my basic complantes are: 1 the incorrect modeling of the Norden bombsite, 2 not being able to manully set the correct altitude in FEET, and 3rd the B-17G's rudder jamming to the right. So comments, questions, possible mod ideas, and general other ranting please post them here as long as they are relivent to the topic.

I really like the authentic Norden mod. I haven't downloaded it yet but it looks nice. Now, is there any way that the Norden would be able to work like the real Norden with the auto-pilot to target and what-not, or has that already been made?
