Hello;

I am new to IL-2, love the realizm of the Sim.

Well, here goes it two questions:

1) I tried to make a new NoseArt by overwriting an existing one, and it doesn't seem to work I've placed it in the appropreiate folder.. so if someone can make one for me that will work would be appreciated..

2) Can you add a Squadron name to the drop down list of Squadrons????? And if so how do you do it...

your nose art has to be : 256 indexed color bmp ( alpha channel enabled ) .... open one of default ones for reference

Also disappointed in that no one has taken the time to answer whether you can add another Squadron to the Squadron drop down list..

Have you tried searching the forums for the squadron adding question?

As for the Noseart: You need to provide more info. Is the noseart you are looking for of a squadron already in existance? If so, how about a unit designation to help with the research.

Also, don't go assuming because your request was not answered right away that folks are not working on it. Be patient.

Go to this folder IL-2 Sturmovik 1946\PaintSchemes\Regiments

Copy one of the bmp files along with the other file with the same name as the bmp file.

Rename both of the files to something else (both names must be exactly the same) Also they must not have any spaces or it tends not to work, same with noseart.

Open the "file" not the ".bmp" file with notepad. Will say something like this:

country      = DU
id           = 21
gruppeNumber = 21
short        = 1e Escadrille KNIL
info         = 1e Escadrille KNIL (NEI)

Country DU for Germany, GB for Britain, US for USAAF etc...
id is what letters or numbers are shown on those planes. For example with RAF you can have two different first letters etc.... Also some countries can't have letters.
Gruppe number really doesn't make any difference, possibly colour for germany
short is what you see in the Squadron list
info is a longer version.

Edit accordingly as you want it. It will take the squad regiment marking from the bmp file which is named exactly the same as this file. Save file.

Open game, THIS HAS TO BE MULTIPLAYER OR IT WON'T WORK. Then pick country whatever you set it to, and choose your squadron (normally at or near the bottom)

First my appoligize for being so hostile....but I kinda knew doing that it would stir a response...okay I did what you said still nothing but for Country I use " US " and for ID " US " is that correct below is what I did..correct me if its wrong please

yep that's right. Anyway if it isn't right then it won't work when u try on multiplayer in game It's the best way to test it lol. It won't make your game not start up or anythin. It's not really a mod in those terms if you get what i mean.

My observations:

RAF = Squadron emblems, no noseart
USAAF = Noseart, no squadron emblems.

Sq. Emblems: 128x128

Noseart = 256x512 (Top half=port, bottom half=starboard)

Difficult choice?

Hey Thanks to everyone here, I found a guy in our squadron who was an avid IL-2 and he re-designed the Pearl Harbour mission to exact placement of ships and route of Japanese planes..well anyways he say to make a new squadron you have to make a skin for it to match the setting that F22-Raptor-2006 had said earlier..thanks guys..you were very helpful

Yeah, the noseart is not available on all planes and IIRC navy planes weren't allowed to carry them.
